“Top 10 Favorites”
What is your favorite?
Wow. What a complicated question. How did you answer it?
Some of us immediately replied with a qualifying question of our own. “My favorite what?” And that makes sense. We have favorite foods, favorite ways to relax, and favorite kinds of work. We have favorite people, such as a partner in life, a child, or a sibling. We have favorite cars, pets, shoes, music, television programs, and clothing.
Now that a few options are on the table, what is your favorite?
Let’s pause and go a little deeper.
Your favorite things. Are those the things you find yourself craving? Hoping for? Praying about?
Many people recognize that God should be our number one favorite, but that's not how we answer the question. Instead, when someone asks about our favorites, we answer with pizza, music, or cars. We know better, but still, we answer poorly.
Don’t worry. I am not pointing a finger at anyone. I am simply paying attention to my own heart. What truly motivates me? Are the things or people that occupy my thoughts healthy and life-giving? Or do I sometimes give too much space to things that are distracting, unhealthy, or even harmful?
At the Chapel, many healthy and meaningful opportunities are available seven days a week: The Lord’s Warehouse, The Paradise Center, AA and Al-Anon, The Chapel Choir, The Friendship Garden, Bible Study, Worship…All these and many other ministry opportunities are part of our shared life together.
This Sunday, February 1, we will offer a membership class immediately following worship for those who would like to learn more about the many ways the Chapel is serving and growing. But do not take my word for it! Take a look through the rest of this Chapeline and decide if something speaks to you. Some opportunities need participants, while others need leaders. Some might need financial support, but all of them are excited to welcome new friends. Is that you and me?
We will never be everything for everybody. That’s not our goal. Instead, we are working diligently and intentionally for God to always be the number one in our Top-10 Favorites.
See you this Sunday, or any other day this week, at the Chapel!
Blessings, Brock.
