"Dream Again!"
Our Lenten theme at the chapel this year is Dream Again. If you have not yet watched this past Sunday’s sermon, I encourage you to do so. It helps paint the larger picture. But for those who prefer the written version, here is the heart of it.
Many people quietly believe they are past the age of dreaming. They assume that dreams belong to the young. That simply is not true. We may forget how to dream. We may become discouraged. But we do not age out of hope. It is not only acceptable to dream, but it is healthy. It is faithful.
Around churches, we often talk about purpose. Much of our spiritual life involves discovering and fulfilling purpose. If you are already pursuing that, wonderful. But remember this: You are allowed to have dreams of your own. Not just responsibilities. Not just obligations. Dreams.
This Lent, we are intentionally focusing on those dreams. There are several ways to participate.
First, join us in the daily Lenten devotions and 24-hour challenges. These are published each morning at 7:00 am on the Chapel website, Facebook, and Brock’s Blog. They can also be sent to you daily via email if you send a request to: (revbrock@longboatislandchapel.org). These short reflections are designed to build momentum one day at a time.
Second, release what is holding you back. Outside the Sanctuary, we have placed a large bulletin board. We invite you to write down what stands in the way of your dreams and attach it to the board. You may write a single word, a letter to yourself, or even post a picture that represents the barrier. If you are not nearby, send it to me or place it somewhere visible at home as a reminder that you are letting it go.
Third, nurture your dreams. We are offering seedling pots for you to take home. Care for them. Water them. Watch them grow. Then, if you would like, bring them back at Easter or before you leave for the season, and we will plant them in the Chapel Gardens.
If you are out of town, stop by a local store and purchase a small plant. Herbs, flowers, grasses. It does not matter. The point is simple. Dreams, like plants, require attention. They need light. They need nourishment. They need care.
I hope you will join us. This is more than an activity. It is an invitation to grow in faith, pursue meaningful goals, and give thanks to God, who continues to care for us in every season.
Dream Again!
God bless,
Brock
