“Lent 2025: Bold…for God!”
Woohoo! It’s back! Another wonderful season of Lent has snuck into the Chapel and makes its grand debut this week on Ash Wednesday, March 5, 2025. Similar to previous years, we will have the imposition of Ashes following each Bible Study at the Chapel and during the lunch hour at the Lord’s Warehouse Thrift Store.
This year’s theme for Lent is “BOLD…for God.”
What is Lent? Lent is the time of preparation for Easter, totaling about six weeks, that begins on Ash Wednesday and concludes on Easter Sunday. During the Lenten Season, the Chapel will publish a new devotion each day at 7 am on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/longboatislandchapel), on our website (https://longboatislandchapel.org/), and on my personal blog (https://www.brockpatterson.com/).
I will also be sending the devotionals out by email, which is the best way to receive them. However, for you to receive the email devotions, I’ll need your email address. Just send me an email and give me the address you want me to use. If you have previously received Lent (or Advent) devotions from me, you are probably already on my list.
One different element about the Lenten Season at the Chapel is that each devotion also includes a 24-hour daily challenge. The challenges are often small, and they are only intended for 24 hours, so no long-term commitments unless you want to make them. Instead, these challenges are scripted so that we can be successful at something that can make a difference in our lives, the lives of those around us, or both.
Yes, even a small task makes a difference. But guess what? You’ll get even more help by picking up a copy of the 2025 Lenten Calendars, available at the Chapel welcome desk and other areas around the Chapel. The calendars can also be downloaded from our website (see the “Devotion” tabs beginning Ash Wednesday), or we can send one to you in the mail (or email) if you’ll let us know. The Calendars provide you with a full list of the Challenges during the entire Lenten Season, giving you a little heads up for those days when you might need some extra time to prepare.
I hope that you join with me as we show God some love this Lent. Since we’re reading a devotion and doing a small task each day, it gives us the opportunity to at least think about God, and if not, take some time to give God thanks for the blessings of this life. Heck, I’m committing to writing 47 daily devotions, AGAIN! The least you can do is pretend to read them and play along! No, really, you’ll enjoy it and I promise you that it will help in some way. Give it a chance.
Finally, there’s one last piece to the 2025 Lent program at the Chapel. I’m asking everyone who attends worship during the next seven Sundays to bring $1 with them. It can be a one-dollar bill, 4 quarters, or 100 pennies. The choice is up to you, but please bring $1 for the offering plate every Sunday morning. If you miss a week and want to double-up the next week, that’s just fine. Or, if you’re out of town and want to participate, you can donate it online or send a check. It’s just a dollar. That’s all.
Are you ready? This is going to be a special Lent! Please join us as we take this short journey together and see what God will do next!
God Bless, Brock
