“Community”
This past weekend was a big one for the Chapel family. Last Friday, the Paradise Center held two classes that were well attended. As they departed, two wedding parties arrived to prepare for their big event the next day. Then, on Saturday, the Chapel hosted a large HOA meeting, two weddings (one inside and one outside). We also had a busy day at the Lord’s Warehouse Thrift Store and then assisted with the opening ceremonies of Longboat Key’s Veterans Day and 70th birthday celebrations. Then, on Sunday, we recognized our Veterans with a beautiful service. After worship, Christmas trees began to emerge in the Chapel’s gardens as we continue to prepare for the upcoming Holiday Season.
Believe it or not, this is becoming normal around the Chapel. It’s a busy place every day and we like it that way. There’s always something happening at the Chapel, every day of the week. If you are looking for a place to help, serve, work, or play, you can probably find an opportunity at the Chapel or with the Chapel family.
One date to put on your calendar is Tuesday, November 18th, 5 pm. This is the date of the community-wide 45th Annual Thanksgiving Worship Service, which is being held at
St. Armand’s Key Lutheran Church. Rabbi Jessica (the new Rabbi at Temple Beth Israel on Longboat Key) will be preaching this year, but all of the pastors of Longboat Key and St. Armand’s are participating. This is a big event each year. If you plan to join us, please bring non-perishable food items with you. This year’s recipient of the donations and offering will be Harvest House.
You also want to put Thanksgiving Day, November 27th, on your calendar. If you do not have a place to enjoy a Thanksgiving Meal, please consider joining us at 1 pm for a delicious meal prepared by our highly qualified kitchen staff. If you have friends or neighbors that don’t have a place to go, send them here. In addition, if you would like to help us decorate the Chapel sanctuary and common areas for Christmas, come early. We’ll start decorating at 10 am. Some people call this “Hanging of the Greens”, but we are just using Thanksgiving Dinner to bribe you to come help decorate the inside of the Chapel. It seems to work.
Please take a few moments to read the rest of this Chapeline Newsletter. We’ve got lots of things listed but many more are taking place every day.
Whatever your plans are this Holiday Season, make sure to keep your calendar open for Chapel worship, activities, and service opportunities. This is what “Community” is all about.
Blessings,
Rev. Brock
