“You Be You And Let God Be God”

This Sunday is Pentecost, otherwise known as the official birthday of the Church. According to Acts Chapter Two, this is the moment when God delivers the Holy Spirit to the believers. It is important because the same Spirit of God now rests upon all who gather in faith, regardless of knowledge, experience, or present state of life.

Priests, pastors, theologians, and countless others have studied this passage thoroughly. Hundreds of millions of sermons have been preached on these verses, and this weekend millions more will be shared around the world.

There is a reason we spend so much time focusing on Pentecost. It gives us what we need to fulfill what God is calling us to do.

That does not mean we suddenly become extraordinary people. In fact, Pentecost reminds us of the opposite. God works through ordinary people by filling them with extraordinary power, courage, wisdom, and purpose through the Holy Spirit.

At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit fell upon all the believers who were gathered together. Peter was filled with the Spirit and called to preach boldly. But the Spirit did not come only for Peter. The Spirit came upon everyone present; each person receiving opportunities to serve, encourage, teach, help, and share the love of God in different ways.

Pentecost is a big deal. One moment changed everything. The Holy Spirit was unleashed upon all who call upon the Lord.

We do not have to be pastors, theologians, or lifelong churchgoers for the Holy Spirit to work through us. We simply need to make ourselves available to where God is leading.

Where is God leading you? What is the Holy Spirit stirring within you? Pay attention this week to God’s movement in your life, and especially to the ways the Holy Spirit may already be working through you.

Then, attend church this weekend. You be you…and let God be God.

“All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit…” (Acts, 2:4, NRSVue)

See you this week at the Chapel!

God Bless, Brock.
