Chairs, Roof, and Restrooms, Oh My!”
The week following Easter was unusually busy at the Chapel! Although we attempted to close the Chapel offices that week to give the staff a much-needed break, multiple projects were taking place.
First, our beloved pews were removed from the sanctuary and replaced by chairs. This process took most of three days and it included many awesome volunteers who gave their time and muscle to help us make this possible. We saved a small portion of the wood from the pews and provided them to a carpenter who is attempting to use it and build the Chapel a new conference table and a few small furniture items.
The new chairs look great! We received very positive responses from the Chapel congregation this past Sunday so we are encouraged! I hope and pray that you are pleased with our new seating, even though Hurricane Helene left us with no choice.
Second, construction of the Chapel’s new roof also began last week. Our new metal roof should be completed in the next 7-10 days. The new roof will exactly match the Lord’s Warehouse (our thrift store) roof, which we had previously replaced several years ago. Since the Lord’s Warehouse roof performed so well during the hurricanes last fall, we feel comfortable using the same materials and roofing contractor for the chapel’s main building.
Third, the new restrooms in our lobby/narthex area are in the final stages of completion. Our new restrooms, which were the primary motivation of our renovation project, are looking fabulous and should be completed in the next month. The Chapel office area, which is also part of the renovation project, is a little further behind than the restrooms. Our goal is to open the restrooms as quickly as possible and continue our office construction through the summer months. As soon as we receive an accurate completion date for our main restrooms, we will let you know!
One of the “inside” jokes among Chapel staff is that the Chapel people love to come to the Chapel when the office is closed. It’s almost as if folks wait until we are closed to call or visit. However, in the case of last week, I am very pleased that so many of you came to help us with our projects. Without your help, we would have been in a real pinch!
So, thank you to all who volunteered their time and sacrificed their physical condition to help us remove the pews and install the chairs. I hope you plan to come to the Chapel soon and see the progress! It’s hard to believe the transformation that has taken place over these last six months!
God Bless, Brock
