“More Than Spiritual”
I should spend more time with the LORD. Whether in prayer, regular conversation, or worship, I should be doing more of it, especially in regard to church. I’m assuming most people feel that way. We know we should do more but it’s difficult to stay focused, all the time. And, after all, some would say that life outside of church is just as important as life on the inside, so what’s the harm in being marginally involved?
Whether we choose to be a little connected or really involved, all of us are connected to Longboat Key in some manner. If we stop and think about it, we might recognize that Longboat Key is a very unique and exciting setting for a church. The demographic is constant and predictable, which is very helpful for ministry and activity programs. There’s always demand for something to do and we have a never-ending supply of folks who are looking for ways to meet folks and make new friends.
Church is a great place for it to occur. Sure, I know. The church is supposed to be a Spiritual place. However, God doesn’t remove us from the joy and responsibility of providing social opportunities. God knows we need each other and that we need things to do, so why wouldn’t God want us to do it at church or with people we meet at church?
The previous statement may not look controversial, but trust me, lots of pastors and churches would take great offense. In many places, the “Social” aspect of church is only a byproduct of something much bigger. The problem with downplaying the social aspect of church is that we forget how to meet and relate to new people. When churches don’t focus on the social needs of the community, they forget what it means to provide genuine hospitality with the simple goal of helping people to have a positive experience.
At the Chapel, we are blessed with a beautiful facility. Even with our facility under construction, we still are able to receive and serve our community with all kinds of social opportunities. When we invite people to church, we are providing people with a true opportunity to fill the mental, emotional, physical, and, of course, Spiritual needs of an individual.
The Chapel is doing more than just filling the Spiritual tank, which all of us need. The Chapel is also helping to provide a quality of life that everyone in our community needs.
Who do you know that needs something positive? Who do you know that needs something to do with good people? Invite them to church. Invite them to the Chapel for whatever might interest them. Then, pay attention and get ready. God will bless both of you.
Blessings, Brock
