Cash Apologies
I must begin with an apology. I work diligently and I try to be very careful with my words as to not offend folks with words or language. I am especially sensitive to non-churchgoers and the truths, misconceptions, and pains they must overcome to attend church. One of the primary misconceptions about the Church is, “It’s always about money”.
All non-profits, (except for the ones backed by gazillionaires), try to raise money using clever approaches words, gimmicks, and anything else they can imagine. Lots of people use television, radio, and social media to help raise money for their organizations, so why am I apologizing on behalf of the Church? Because I’m writing an article about money, thus fulfilling the thought in some people’s heads that Church is, “All about money.”
However, I would also like to mention something that is familiar to you. The Chapel, this church, is not all about money. This Chapel serves needs that are vital lifelines to individuals, families, and our community. Ministries, activities, and events are open to everyone and anyone who wishes to attend or participate. Sure, some social activities (primarily trips) require a specific cost, but other than that, almost all of the Chapel’s activities are offered without a cost requirement to attendees.
We are able to do this because people who can afford extra contribute enough to cover the cost of the ones who can’t afford it. Believe it or not, everyone on Longboat Key is not wealthy. Yes, lots of people are wealthy. But yes, lots of people are not wealthy, especially now.
This is one of the primary reasons that the Church exists: to share God’s blessings with each other, allowing everyone to be included. God doesn’t provide resources so that we can be extravagant. The Chapel isn’t trying to build a spaceship or buy a helicopter. We’re just trying our best to care for the emotional, physical, mental, and yes, spiritual needs of anyone who wishes to attend.
God knows what is needed most. At the Chapel, we’re trying our best to follow the LORD. When there’s a cost involved, we’ll ask for it. In 2024, I asked, A LOT. And guess what? God provided in abundance, through your generosity.
Thank you, and please accept my apologies for needing to ask again in 2025. We finished STRONG in 2024 and 2025 is off to a GREAT start! Praise God from whom all blessings flow!
I hope to see you soon, in person or online, at the Chapel!
God Bless, Brock.
