"Give Thanks Early"
The Holiday Season begins in less than ten days, but the best shopping days are already upon us. Early Black Friday sales have begun, which gives all of us the perfect opportunity to Give Thanks a little early this year.
What am I referring to? Two things: Food and toys. First, local foodbanks are dreadfully low this year. The Chapel is always collecting non-perishable food so buy some extra at the store this week and bring it to the Chapel. If the office isn’t open, just leave it by any of our exterior doors and we’ll take it from there. Or, if you are planning to attend tonight’s Interfaith Thanksgiving Service at St. Armand’s Circle, consider bringing some food with you. Harvest House, a Chapel outreach partner, will be present to receive the food as well as the entire offering received during the worship service. (See details below about the worship service.)
Second, we need toys. Stillpoint Missions (https://stillpointmission.org/) is another of the Chapel’s primary outreach partners, providing basic needs to underserved families in Bradenton and Sarasota. This year, we are Stillpoint’s only toy donor. Take a moment to look at Stillpoint’s website and then find a way to buy a toy and get it to the Chapel. If you are not in the LBK area, please feel free to purchase something online, like Amazon or Walmart, and send it to the Chapel. We’ll make sure it gets to the Stillpoint volunteers. Stillpoint expects to serve 800-1,000 children this Christmas. We would like to help as many children as possible.
Heads up! We are collecting toys only until Sunday, November 30th. After receiving the toys, Stillpoint needs to sort, organize and distribute the gifts to the parents and caregivers in time for Christmas. This is a big “logistics” operation so please try to get the toys to the Chapel in time. Ideas? Anything is great: boys and girls, all ages. Teenager gifts are especially helpful (basketballs, footballs, jump ropes, games, frisbees, puzzles, skates or rollerblades, etc.).
I really appreciate you helping me out with these two BIG needs. As I sit here and write this article, I’m asking myself, when was the last time I didn’t have food to eat? Never. When I was a child, was there ever a time that I didn’t receive all the toys I wanted? No. Now, I can help show my thanks by helping to take care of someone else.
See you this Sunday for a special worship service! Come see God’s work at the Chapel or watch it online!
Blessings,
Rev. Brock
