“Blessings and Woes”
For many people in our area, Easter marks the time to begin packing up and preparing for the journey home after a beautiful season in the tropics. For permanent residents, this season brings both blessings and woes.
The blessings are easy to recognize. Traffic begins to ease. Restaurant seating becomes more available. Appointments are easier to schedule. Life slows down just a bit.
But there are also losses. Friends head back north. Familiar faces are no longer around. Local businesses and employees feel the impact of a quieter season.
None of this is new. It happens every year.
Recently, I was asked what Longboat Key is like during the summer months. In a word, slower. The pace changes. The busy season fades, and what remains is an opportunity to catch up on projects that have been waiting. It is also a chance to enjoy the beauty of this place in a quieter, more peaceful way.
If you are among those preparing to travel, I pray for safe journeys. May your time away be blessed, protected, and filled with good health. We look forward to welcoming you back next season.
If you are staying, you may already be thinking about the projects that still need attention. There is always more to do. But I also hope you will take time to pause.
The past eighteen months have been demanding for all of us, especially as we have worked through the effects of the storms in late 2024. It has been a long stretch of effort and recovery.
We need a break. So take a deep breath. Step outside. Let the ocean air do its work. The projects will still be there tomorrow.
I pray for a refreshing and renewing summer for all of you. I also pray for safe travels for those heading both near and far.
And remember, if you need us, the Chapel will be here, ready to welcome you again soon.
Blessings, Brock
