All Saints Day

November 2nd

Sunday Worship/Holy Communion

10:00 a.m.

“What Happened?”

“What happened?” That’s a question I’ll be frequently asked during the next few weeks. People will ask the question for a couple of reasons. First, I’ve returned to Longboat Key following nearly one month abroad, touring and learning all kinds of great things that will be helpful in my continued professional development. Second, many of you have also been away, some for a few weeks and others for a few months. Lots has happened since we last saw each other.

Among them is the departure of Rev. Bill and Bah Friederich to their next stop at St. Andrew UCC in Sarasota. I’m so thankful for Rev. Bill covering all the bases while I was away. Indeed, he had as much to do with my trip as anyone, because his presence and the awesome Chapel Staff gave me peace, allowing me to clear my heart and mind to be open to God’s work. However, that wasn’t all he did. He helped reconnect people to the Chapel who had been away for much longer than a few months. Rev. Bill had a unique and special knowledge of Chapel life as my predecessor and a Chapel member for many years. His service has been invaluable.

Something else that happened was that the Chapel was awarded the “2025 Business Resiliency Award” from the Longboat Key Chamber of Commerce. Essentially, the award was to be given to a business or organization that overcame great challenges in the last twelve months, while still continuing to serve the needs of the community. I’m sure you’ll agree that every business and organization on the island deserves that award, for all of us faced and overcame significant challenges following the 2024 Hurricane Season.

What else happened? Lots of things. In fact, since I’m becoming reacclimated myself, I can’t tell you all of it (and you’d be bored, anyway). However, I can let you know this: This Sunday is All Saints’ Day, a day that we honor loved ones who have passed before us. Normally, we would honor this day each year. But, as you may remember, last year’s Hurricanes prevented us from having this special time.

So, this Sunday at the Chapel, we’re gonna’ catch up. But we’re not going to limit ourselves to just one thing. This is not just about our loved ones who aren’t here. This is also about you, too. God has so much more to offer. This Sunday, we’ll just begin to break the surface of something very special for all of us.

I hope you can attend worship with me this Sunday, November 2. Or, if you’re not close enough to attend in person, make sure to tune into our live streaming on the Chapel’s website and Facebook page. You are really important to us, but you are so much more important to the LORD. That’s why we do what we do: We live, learn, laugh, and cry, but we do it together so that all of us have an answer to the illustrious question, “What happened?”

Blessings,

Rev. Brock

Farewell from Rev. Bill Friederich

This is my opportunity to express again my deep appreciation and gratitude to

Rev. Brock, the staff, and family of the Chapel for Inviting me again to share in this journey with each of you! Bah and I have enjoyed our time in ministry and fellowship with you. We take our leave having learned valuable lessons, renewing friendships, and greeting new faces.

Our time here, though short, felt as though we were being prepared for the next part of the journey. And so, we will say goodbye for now, but hopefully we will remain connected through prayers, wishes, dreams, fellowship, and ministry opportunities.

Until next time, be well, stay strong in faith, and loyal to each other. Be welcoming, loving, and inviting to those who seek a safe harbor.

God Bless, and “hotdawg!”
