“Put It To Practice”

This is it. Summer is about to begin, bringing a new set of logistics, emotions, opportunities, and plenty of fun. It is also the time of year when many churches begin to slow down, with decreased attendance and participation.

Why does this happen?

Part of the reason is that the rhythm of church life often follows the school calendar. When school is in session, families tend to maintain more structure. When summer arrives, that structure loosens, and so does church attendance.

Another reason for this decrease is scheduling. Summer brings travel, vacations, and spontaneous weekend plans. With less consistency, it becomes easier to excuse our absence, even when we know we need church in our lives.

Additionally, many folks, especially in our Chapel community, experience physical distance. Our population shifts dramatically as seasonal residents return to their homes in other places. It is a blessing for them, but it also creates a natural disconnect.

There are plenty of reasons to step away during the summer. But this year, I hope we will reconsider.

Many of us have made real progress in our faith. We have grown. We have learned. We have experienced God in meaningful ways. And our church, chapel, or synagogue community has been a large part of that journey.

Don't forget about your progress. You've worked hard; put it into practice. Stay connected. Attend worship when you can, whether in person or online. Engage with your church through its ministries and media. Continue to build on what God has already begun in your life. Because the truth is, summer does not remove life’s challenges. We will still face difficulties, setbacks, and moments of uncertainty. A steady connection to God can make all the difference.

Summer is coming. Let’s prepare our hearts and minds to stay focused on what matters most. We may discover that summer is not only the most enjoyable season of the year…but also one of the most meaningful.

See you this week at the Chapel, online or in person!
