“It’s Almost Christmas and I’m Tired!”
I hate to say this, but we’re nearing the conclusion of another year. Hard to believe, isn’t it? Christmas is close, and New Year’s Day is just beyond that. Once we reach it, we’ll have wrapped up 2025. Bummer.
I know this is supposed to be the week dedicated to the Advent theme of Joy. The Christmas countdown is nearing its completion, people are looking ridiculous in their holiday sweaters, and the shows and music are fabulous. We have so many reasons to be full of joy, so why aren’t we bouncing off the walls with smiles and laughter?
In my case, I know why: I’m tired. I’ve sneezed once or twice, I've felt a scratch in my throat, and I’m rubbing my eyes all day.
If this sounds like you or someone you know, let me speak on their behalf. Those feelings of tiredness, being borderline sick, or just not one hundred percent—those are natural. Many people feel this way right now, especially those working hard.
Talk to a musician. They’re tired and borderline sick. Ask a pastor how they feel. They’ll smile, but you’ll see right through it. Ask someone with year-end deadlines. They’ll tell you they’re dragging. Ask someone in retail or restaurants, and they’ll admit they’re struggling a bit.
Many people are working their hardest now for valid reasons: year-end goals, efficiency numbers, attendance, customer service ratings, sales figures...you name it. Add the holidays on top, and your friend or loved one may truly be at risk of getting sick, falling asleep at their desk, or turning into a Grinch at the
party...if they can even get away to attend.
If this is you or someone you love, rest easy, literally. Offer sleep and hydration. Protein and a decent diet help, too. They may not control their schedules, but they (or you) can take steps to help finish strong.
So, how are you feeling? Are you ready for a Merry Christmas? No matter what, Christmas is coming, and Santa is probably already loading his sleigh. It might be nice to stay awake to see him come down the chimney, but the better option is to get the rest we need, so we can truly enjoy the Christmas God has prepared for us.
God Bless, Brock.
