The Chapter Planning Committee (CPC) met via Zoom on July 1, 2020. We discussed many issues related to preparation for the Congregational Chapter in the summer of 2021. The dates for Chapter are Sunday, July 25 to Sunday, August 1, 2021.

What follows is a summary of our meeting.

Concerns raised by Sisters and Forums
We are encouraged by a number of Sisters who engaged in conversations about Chapter and their desire to know more of what is happening. The questions and concerned raised by individuals and forums signify interest. They also indicate a gap in information which has been shared but, perhaps, not adequately or clearly. The CPC recognizes the need to pay attention to what Sisters are saying. Thus, we will continue to listen and communicate more effectively.

Clarification of the Communal Discernment Process
The CPC addressed the question, “Are we still committed to a Communal Discernment Process that we have used and affirmed at our assemblies?” The members of the CPC are clear that this is the desired process for Chapter and will continue to work toward that end.

Moving Forward in Chapter Planning with Plan A and Plan B
The CPC is aware that Covid-19 may not go away soon and that a vaccine may not be available before the scheduled Chapter next year. With this in mind, the CPC is beginning now to plan for either possibility.

Plan A is for the Chapter to be face-to-face, which is our hope. Plan B is for a virtual Chapter. The cut-off decision date to move from PLAN A to PLAN B is March 1, 2021. Whether in-person or virtual, the Chapter will take place the week of July 25 to August 1, 2021.
