Dear AFP colleagues and friends:
Every April, Volunteer Canada leads the National Volunteer Week celebration. It is the perfect time to recognize volunteers and celebrate the power of volunteerism in our communities. This year, National Volunteer Week is April 24-30, 2022.
In this month’s newsletter I am sending a huge shout-out to all of you who help to make life better for those who surround you. If you have chosen to be in this field, chances are you have the heart of a lion! I am willing to bet that each one of you volunteers for some organization(s) to ensure this world we live in continues to improve.
I also want to acknowledge the AFP Nova Scotia Chapter’s Board Members. This group of fabulous humans dedicate a lot of their time to ensuring that those of us in the philanthropy field have the opportunity to attend professional development sessions, have access to new job postings, and have the ability to liaise with others in the field of philanthropy through planned events like the Young Professional and Emerging Leaders Socials and the Mentorship program.
These last few months have been especially busy as a small team of exceptional humans has been working very diligently to organize the Maritime Fundraising Conference (MFC) that runs virtually on June 6th and 7th. This is going to be our Chapter’s best conference yet! I hope you take the time to register and to join us at the MFC!
Have a wonderful April!

Fundraising Day
April 29, 2022
|
St. Francis Xavier University is proud to once again host AFP-Nova Scotia’s Fundraising Day as we come together in-person to share our successes and challenges in engaging communities, with a special focus on the rural sector. Now, more than ever, we feel the need for a day of inspiring discussion and uplifting conversations.
This event is intended to bring together professionals in fundraising, marketing, program delivery, and volunteers, as well as community leaders to come together to learn and share best practices.
Bring a volunteer for free! This is a great opportunity to connect with colleagues, get to know your volunteers better, and learn more about how we can work together to make our organisations and communities more successful in a post-pandemic world.

For those new to fundraising, young professionals, or for those who’d like to get into the fundraising profession, AFP’s introductory 2-day course will cover the basics of fundraising practice and principles at the fundamental level. The course content covers the roles and responsibilities of fundraisers, with emphasis on ethics and responsibilities you are likely to encounter at the beginning of your career.
You will be taught by four of our community’s leading professional fundraisers, CFREs: Liz LeClair, Marnie Tuttle, Sarah Lyon, and Lisa Weatherhead.

|
|
Are you interested in studying for your CFRE but don’t want to do it alone? No idea of where to start and how to prepare for the exam? We would love to help you connect with others who want to write their CFRE exam. If there is interest, we can help you form a study group.
Please email Heather Strickey, CFRE, MFA-P at alumni@kes.ns.ca to indicate your interest.
