A Message from the president:
|
Hello Fellow Fundraisers,
I’m writing this note as the 2024 AFP ICON comes to a close, this time above the 49th parallel in Toronto.
I’ve been fortunate to attend three ICON’s and admittedly, this year felt different.
It was refreshing to see the concepts of IDEA (inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility) everywhere. Hard and uncomfortable conversations were had on the mainstage and throughout the conference. This prompted challenging self-reflection for all – both internally and with colleagues.
During a session entitled “Breaking the Silence: Confronting Anti-Black Racism in AFP”, the Co-
Conspirators told their truths and discussed the road to allyship. Here are a few phrases that stuck with me:
- “Things (regarding racism) aren’t getting worse, they are getting uncovered.”
- “No act of social justice (and change) is free – there is always a cost.”
- “It takes courage to walk good in this life.”
As we, personally and professionally, do the work to make this world a more inclusive place, try to find
inspiration from the messages of those who have worked to break down barriers and ceilings for others.
It’s amazing how this will fill your cup and help you help others.
There is so much AFPNS news to come – let’s do this!
All the very best,
Alison Clements – President, AFP Nova Scotia

Nominations Open for the 2025 AFP Nova Scotia Chapter Board of Directors
As part of our commitment to IDEA and finding ways to remove barriers to inclusion, we are opening up the process to include nominating yourself or others to the board. Representation matters and we are seeking to increase the diversity on AFP NS Chapter’s existing board, particularly those who self-identify as members of under-represented groups. We hope you will consider adding your voice, or someone’s you know, to the table.
The 2024 board members will assume office starting January 1, 2025. Nominations are due by May 15, 2024.
