Happy August everyone!
I hope you all had a restful summer with friends and family. It’s hard to believe that we’re already getting ready for September, we have a full slate of programming ready for you.
Did you miss the Maritime Fundraising Conference? There’s still time to catch the virtual sessions through our Replay Ticket, details are below.
We have two educational opportunities coming up, a webinar hosted by Trellis on September 28, registration is open and free to sign up. We also have the Fundamentals of Fundraising course coming up on October 1-2, a fantastic opportunity for new fundraisers on your team.
If you have any ideas for future education sessions please let us know, we’re always open to new ideas.
There are a number of opportunities for funding coming up as well, AFP Canada’s Scholarship program is open for applications until September 15, the Chamberlain scholarship opens soon as well, details to come. Scholarships are a great way to supplement your professional development budgets!

AFP Nova Scotia Scholarship Opportunities for Fundraising Professionals | |

The AFP Nova Scotia Chapter is committed to awarding scholarships for educational opportunities for fundraising professionals in our community – members and non-members.
Scholarships up to a value of $1,000 are available to chapter members and fundraising professionals to help defray costs to attend educational sessions/conferences. For consideration, candidates will need to complete an application form that will be evaluated by the AFP Nova Scotia Chapter Scholarship Committee. Assessment criteria will consider financial need, whether the candidate is new to the profession, has attended the conference before, commitment to principles of inclusion, diversity, equity and access (IDEA), and the candidate’s contribution to the sector. Candidates are encouraged to access funding from their employer where possible as well as from other sources of funding.

Leaders, members, and non-members working in the profession who are interested in applying for a scholarship towards an educational opportunity taking place before December 31, 2022, must submit your application by 4:00 p.m. on Monday, September 19, 2022.

The buzz from the Maritime Fundraising Conference 2022: Changing IDEAs, presented by Global Philanthropic Canada, continues to ripple through our sector. AFP Fundamentals of Fundraising Course
October 1 and 2, 2022, In-Person

For those new to fundraising, young professionals, or for those who’d like to get into the fundraising profession, AFP’s introductory 2-day course will cover the basics of fundraising practice and principles at the fundamental level. The course content covers the roles and responsibilities of fundraisers, with emphasis on ethics and responsibilities you are likely to encounter at the beginning of your career.
Taught by four of our community’s leading professional fundraisers, CFREs: Liz LeClair, Marnie Tuttle, Sarah Lyon, and Lisa Weatherhead, the course is an active learning style and includes case studies and projects for groups and individuals, making the learning experience both substantive and enjoyable. Topics include major gifts, annual giving, development plans, developing and sustaining relationships, and so much more. Plus, you will earn up to 16 CFRE continuing education credits.

Nominations Open for 2023 AFP Distinguished Fellows | |
The Distinguished Fellows Program recognizes individuals who have made significant leadership contributions to philanthropy and the fundraising profession, and who continue to advance ethical and effective fundraising through their volunteer and advisory work. We are now accepting nominations for the 2023 class of Distinguished Fellows to be recognized at AFP ICON 2023.
Deadline for submission of completed nominations is October 1, 2022.
