January 2026

Dear AFP Colleagues and Friends,

It is a great honour and privilege that I step into the role of President of the AFP Nova Scotia Chapter for 2026. I am immensely grateful to represent this incredible chapter and work alongside such a dedicated and talented group.

What we have done in previous years with our IDEA Pathway was phenomenal. I feel inspired by the work we have accomplished, and in alignment with our mission, I will work each day to emulate this vision. We will take our learnings and put them into action. We will plant the seeds of success.

Let’s master the 3P’s of time management: Planning – Prioritize – Performing! And in keeping with our strategic vision, as President, I have three audacious goals for our chapter:

  • To create a process of attracting and retaining a diverse group of fundraising leaders, who will advance, promote and sustain the profession of philanthropy.
  • To work on building stronger partnerships with sector partners using collaborative approaches and to provide the best member experience through hospitality, engagement and networking.
  • To ensure that our members receive the highest quality and relevant support through professional development and mentorship opportunities.

As we look ahead, let us celebrate the collective power of our work and the incredible potential we have when we come together. I encourage you to get involved, share your ideas and together, we will continue to strengthen our chapter and the philanthropic spirit of our region.

I would like to close by sharing an inspirational quote: “Sometimes nothing good happens to you because you are the good that happens to others.”

Stay solid in your character, that’s what keeps others going. You are built to make an impact. People like you don’t just show up – we hold entire worlds together. Let’s build this future together!

Sincerely,

Basim Sobeih

President, AFP Nova Scotia
