May 2024

A Message from the president:

Hello Fellow Fundraisers,

Anyone else have spring fever?

Spring is a time of refresh and renewal. For many of us it is also a time of reflection as we prepare for the various Annual General Meetings of the organizations we belong to.

AFP Nova Scotia is no different. There is so much happening behind the scenes with our IDEA Pathway, created in partnership with the unstoppable April Howe & AFP Global, and plans for our own AGM at the end of June. With this work, AFP Nova Scotia is facing its own renewal in how we work to ensure IDEA (inclusion, diversity, equity and access) is embedded in all aspects of our chapter, including the events and educational opportunities we bring forward to you, our members from all over the Maritimes.

Speaking of education, go to your calendars right now and book off September 16th & 17th! The 2024 Maritime Fundraising Conference is a go, and taking place inside the beautiful facilities of Pier 21 in Halifax. Thinking about presenting? Be on the lookout for a call for speakers, coming soon!

Also, this is the last call for nominations for our AFP Nova Scotia Board of Directors. You can read the “nuts and bolts'' below, but I’ll be real with you: joining our Broad was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my fundraising career. The professional connections and friendships I have made over the last seven years are invaluable. Not to mention how much we have grown as a chapter. In my opinion, the momentum and progressive thinking of this chapter is somewhat unique. We are leaders of change in our AFP family. If you want to be a leader too, or know someone who would, make a nomination! We need a variety of voices around our table and welcome yours.

Whether you’re heading into your event season or heading into a new “season” of your career, may the sun be shining on you this spring!

All the very best,

Alison Clements – President, AFP Nova Scotia

Join Us - Last Chance for Nominations for the 2025 AFP Nova Scotia Chapter Board of Directors

Nominations for the 2025 AFP NS Chapter Board of Directors are now open. As part of our commitment to IDEA and finding ways to remove barriers to inclusion, we are opening up the process to include nominating yourself or others to the board. Representation matters and we are seeking to increase the diversity on AFP NS Chapter’s existing board, particularly those who self-identify as members of under-represented groups. We hope you will consider adding your voice, or someone’s you know, to the table.

The 2024 board members will assume office starting January 1, 2025. Nominations are due by May 22, 2024

Voices of Experience: The Role of People with Lived Experience Across the Charitable Sector

Charities and nonprofit organizations predominantly function to support those in need, address systemic injustices, and create a better world. These organizations, perhaps more than others, have a specific responsibility to involve those directly impacted by an issue, like mental health, poverty, injustice, and others, in their mission work.
