October 2023

A Message from the president:

Happy October Everyone! It’s hard to believe how fast the fall is going by, I don’t know about you but this fall has felt busier than others.

We have a few events coming up in November, starting with our Stewardship Deep Dive session with our friends at BNP Philanthropic. They’ll be providing us an update from their latest stewardship survey and the session will earn you credits toward your CFRE! Don’t miss the opportunity to join the discussion on November 2nd., registration details are below.

November also marks National Philanthropy Day and this year AFP Nova Scotia is switching gears a bit. Rather than our traditional lunch, we’re hosting a coffee break on November 15 at the Lebrun Recreation Centre in Bedford. Start your day with us and join us for meaningful confirmation about how we can mobilize our learning in equity work to create lasting impact in our sector. We’ll be announcing the exciting panel that will guide us through the discussion shortly, registration is open now.

We hosted our first President Pop-In in Cape Breton this past month at Breton Brewing and we would love to do more; let us know if you’re interested in AFP coming to your community! We would be happy to come for a chat and a snack.

As always if you have ideas of events or professional development sessions you’d like to see don’t hesitate to reach out.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to the nonprofit sector.

Sincerely,

Whitney Maclean – President, AFP Nova Scotia

National Philanthropy Day

AFP Nova Scotia and the Community Foundation of Nova Scotia are delighted to host a gathering for National Philanthropy Day on November 15th at the LeBrun Community Centre from 9:30am-11:00am ADT.

Recognizing the significance of moving beyond passive participation in equity learning, the goal of this event is to inspire action toward integrating and promoting these learnings within philanthropy. By wholeheartedly embedding equity and inclusion as core values in our philanthropic work, we will strengthen the social good sector's capacity to initiate enduring and impactful change.

AFP Nova Scotia is pleased to offer an IDEA rate for our National Philanthropy Day celebration as part of our commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and access (IDEA) in the fundraising sector. Current and future fundraisers/applicants from BIPOC, 2SLGBTQ+, or other under-represented communities may purchase this ticket.

Join us for coffee, conversation, and celebration of the nonprofit sector this National Philanthropy Day!
