Happy Fall Everyone! I hope you had a lovely and restful summer. We’re back in action after our summer break and have lots on the go to share with you.
The month of October marks National Indigenous History Month (Mi’kmaq History month here in Nova Scotia), it’s a time for us to learn about Indigenous culture and reflect on our individual contributions to Truth and Reconciliation. This month is about taking the time to learn and unlearn, the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation are offering daily sessions to help us un-learn our colonial past and there are many other resources available to help you learn more about the history of our Indigenous communities, including Four Seasons of Reconciliation and the University of Alberta Indigenous Canada course.
In AFP news, the Chamberlain Scholarship is open once again for applications, this is a great opportunity to attend AFP ICON 2024 as the scholarship covers the full registration fee. This year AFP ICON is in Toronto, so a bit closer to home for all of us on the East Coast! If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out to Fiona Valverde: fvalverde@pier21.ca.
We’re hosting our first PD session of the year on Tuesday, October 17, Ethical Decision Making in Fundraising to mark AFP Ethics month! This session features Laurissa Stoddart of Growth & Co. and is eligible for CFRE credit. Registration is open now.
It’s hard to believe that we’re already approaching October and spooky season is in full swing! National Philanthropy Day will be here before you know it and we have a planning committee in place to bring it to life, if you’re interested in helping shape the day let us know! We’re always looking for new volunteers, reach out to afpnovascotia@gmail.com if you’re interested.
All the best,
Whitney Maclean – President, AFP Nova Scotia
