Chapter President's Message

Bo Bass, MAI

Greetings everyone!  Hope you all had a great summer and are ready to finish the year strong! While some still have a full schedule of appraisal work, others may currently be experiencing a lower volume. Times of lighter work volume are great opportunities to take education courses, re-evaluate business plans and operations, expand your client base, or enhance technology skills (particularly with software). These are important things that often get pushed to the side during busy times. No matter where your opportunities lie, I urge you to finish strong!

As a Chapter, we have a strong finish planned! The focus of this year’s leadership team has been on educational and social opportunities for our members. While many opportunities have been presented throughout the year, we have many more yet to come this fall.

Educational Opportunities

State of Atlanta will be held October 19th at the Cobb Energy & Performing Arts Center. In addition to another great line up of speakers, we are honored this year to have AI National President Craig Steinley and new AI CEO Cindy Chance in attendance! A huge thank you to this year’s State of Atlanta team, as well as Suzanne Brockway, as I have witnessed firsthand all their hard work in getting this year’s event together:

  •  Chair - Patrick Adamson, MAI, SRA
  • Bo Bass, MAI
  • Chris Calhoun, MAI
  • Talani Casariego, MAI
  • David Griffin, MAI, SRA, AI-GRS
  • Ayako Marsh, SRA
  • Jeff O’Dell, MAI
  • Bennett Sands, MAI

Additionally, we have two in-person educational offerings to finish out the year.

  • October 30-November 2 – General Appraiser Site Valuation & Cost Approach (Larry Wright, MAI, SRA, AI-GRS and our very own Jeff Bowing, MAI, SRA, AI-GRS)

  • November 9 – Becoming Proficient in Fractional Interest Valuation (Dennis Webb, MAI)

Social Opportunities

We held an Atlanta Braves outing on September 18th with 40 Chapter AI Professionals in attendance. A huge thank you to David Chamberlain and Suzanne Brockway for making this event happen!

On September 29th, we are having a Fishing Tournament at Piedmont Driving Club. Only a few spots remain available so sign up quickly! Many thanks to Lamar Ellis, John Cherry, Mike Hunter, and Suzanne Brockway for all of your hard work in getting this event together!

Of Note: Our Education Committee and Candidate Guidance Committee worked diligently to organize a Comprehensive Exam study session that was held in July. I’m proud to say that we had several candidates for designation attend and all provided positive feedback. Thank you to our Education Committee (Andy Sheppard, MAI; Jim Vernor, MAI; Chris Calhoun, MAI; Talani Casariego, MAI; and Chris Farrell, MAI) and Candidate Guidance Committee (Matthew Albigese, MAI; Grant Murphy, SRA; and Keith Nelson, MAI) for taking the time to give back and invest in others by making this special offering happen!

I look forward to finishing the year strong with you all! If you have any questions or ideas, please feel free to reach out to us. Thank you for all that you do in helping make our Chapter one of the leading Appraisal Institute Chapters across the country!

Best regards,

Bo Bass, MAI
