State

The Chapter's Legislative Action Committee (LAC) continues to meet monthly. The Chapter had a busy legislative session and will continue to monitor the Social Work Compact development nationally as well as the implementation of laws to reduce barriers to licensure in Washington. To find out more about the Compact's status, please visit:

The LAC continues to work on planning for next legislative session, including seeking input from membership, planning for our next Policy Conference, and more. Updates related to the LAC and rulemaking are posted on our Chapter's Voter Voice page.

DOH Rules Workshops on Licensure Requirements

Please see the notice from the Washington Department of Health below seeking an LASW for the advisory committee.

The board will be considering rule amendments to implement recent legislation, including 2SHB 1724 and E2SHB 2247. To implement this legislation, the board will consider:

  • (1) lowering or removing barriers to entering and remaining in the behavioral health care workforce
  • (2) measures to streamline and shorten the credentialing process
  • (3) establishing a psychological associate license
  • (4) amending the licensure process for experienced psychologists licensed outside of Washington, and
  • (5) other amendments to the chapter as appropriate. This may include streamlining the licensure process for graduates of non-American Psychological Associate (APA) programs and addressing other issues raised by the board, partners, or interested parties.

Additionally, this rulemaking project will continue previous work where the board began considering amendments related to licensure requirements, changes to the national examination, supervision requirements, the role of technology and telepsychology in the profession, additional options for sanctions, and other topics.

As part of the rulemaking process, the department welcomes your participation in a series of rulemaking workshops. During the workshops we welcome ideas, concerns, and general comments on how to best develop regulations pertaining to the proposed amendments. Click here to read the entire notice including dates in June.

NASW Celebrates Juneteenth

NASW would like to officially acknowledge Juneteenth, an historic day that celebrates the freedom of Black Americans from slavery. We also recognize that during this critical juncture it is important to highlight our responsibility as a social work organization to do our part in helping to dismantle the systems of oppression that continue to exist.

The NASW National Conference is scheduled from June 19-22! This year’s conference opens on Juneteenth and includes an opening celebration! Read more about the Juneteenth holiday here.

June is PRIDE Month

People who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and/or gender expansive, queer and/or questioning, intersex, asexual, and two-spirit (LGBTQIA2S+) are members of every community, and provide incredibly important contributions to society every day. NASW further recognizes that LGBTQIA2S+ people have always been part of our social work workforce and continue to make meaningful contributions to our profession.
