Gabby Gilloon
2nd Grader!
“Gabby consistently puts forth effort in all areas. She is a responsible and dependable student. You can Count on her to do the right thing, even when no one is watching!”
| |
|
Christopher Shillito
3rd Grader
“Christopher is an outstanding third grader. He values his education and is a hard worker. He strives to be polite and consistently uses manners. Christopher is quick to lend a helping hand to teachers and fellow students. I often catch him quietly being helpful without seeking any recognition. This could be taking down the chair of an absent student in the morning, picking up pencils off the floor and putting them into the lost and found, or reminding classmates of expectations by modeling them himself. Christopher truly does these good deeds because he knows it will help us and not because he wants to be noticed or praised. I am so proud of Christopher’s citizenship and am grateful to have him as a member of our Third Grade Family.”

Mateo Carmoega
7th Grader
“I would like to nominate Mateo for student of the month. He has displayed many great qualities in the cafeteria. It’s not easy to step out of your comfort zone to help others but that is exactly what he does everyday. He has shown acts of kindness, loyalty, generosity and friendship to all of those around him.”

Pertussis (Whooping Cough)
Public Health Dayton and Montgomery County has seen an increased number of pertussis cases recently. NO cases have been reported at St. Charles at this time. However, since there are cases showing up throughout the community, this is a great time to review information about pertussis.
-
Pertussis is a bacterial infection that affects the airways and can easily spread from person to person by coughing, sneezing, etc.
- Pertussis can cause a severe cough that can last for weeks or months, sometimes leading to coughing "fits" or vomiting.
- Anyone can get pertussis, but it can be very dangerous to babies, pregnant people, those with chronic respiratory diseases/illnesses and elderly people.
We recommend that:
- Observing your child for illnesses (see daily health check).
- If your child has a cough and/or you suspect pertussis, make an appointment with your child's doctor.
- If you suspect your child has been exposed to pertussis, contact your child's doctor regardless if your child has symptoms or does not have symptoms.
- If your child is diagnosed with pertussis, please report this information to the school nurse.
- Stay up to date with vaccines. Vaccination in the BEST protection against pertussis. Childhood vaccines (DTap) can decrease over time. Older children and adults should get a pertussis booster vaccine (Tdap).
- To help prevent illnesses this fall and winter, PLEASE remember the basics of regular hand washing, covering coughs and sneezing, cleaning commonly touched services and staying home when sick (see daily health check).

Hello, it is with great excitement and pleasure I introduce myself to you as one of the newest teachers at St. Charles. My name is Jessica Lawrence, I am originally from Dayton, I attended both St. Charles and Alter. After high school I continued my education at the University of Dayton, where I received my degree in Early Childhood Education and Intervention Specialist. I spent 13 years teaching in Ohio, Virginia, and Guam. I have taught various grade levels from K-5 th . The last few years I have taken off to be with my family. I have a wonderful husband and 3 beautiful children who I love to spend time with. In my spare time I love traveling, spending time with loved ones, and being anywhere near the water. I am excited to be back in the school setting and am very grateful to be a part of this amazing St. Charles
community.

Hello Chargers! My name is Kerry Bruggeman and I am the new four year old preschool teacher. I am thrilled to be working at such an amazing school. I am a graduate of Alter High School and the University of Dayton. I have my bachelors degree in early childhood education. My husband Matt and I have 3 kiddos, Stella (4th), Liam (3rd) and Daisy (K). When I am not at school I enjoy walking our pups, watching my kiddos play sports, reading, and catching up on my favorite netflix shows. Thanks for welcoming me into the St. Charles family. I enjoy seeing all your smiling faces in the hallway! Preschool is pretty cool 😎

NURSE NEWS
Vaccines for School
Per the Ohio Revised Code and the Ohio Department of Health, proof of required school vaccines (preschool through 8th grade) must be submitted to the school by the 15th day of each school year. This year, vaccines must be submitted by 9/11/2024. The groups that are typically in need of vaccines for school are:
- New students
- Tk or kindergarten students (updated "5 year" or "kindergarten" vaccines)
- 7th grade students (updated vaccines meningococcal and Tdap)
Most students have already received these vaccines, but the school must also have "proof' of those vaccines. If your child is missing proof of vaccines, the school nurse will reach out to you. Please make sure to respond as soon as possible. Proof of vaccine may be your child's vaccine record from the provider or the attached form (Section II) completed and signed by the provider.
Thank you for your help in this matter.
