As Catholics, we have many feasts to honor those whose lives are a path for us towards holiness. We continuously pray for our faithful departed, but on November 2, All Souls Day, we come together as families to honor them. This day is officially called “The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed,” In our catholic faith, we celebrate that day by visiting cemeteries or the final resting places of our loved one who have been called to the presence of God. We also attend the All-Souls Day's mass, offering an intention and reciting a prayer. Focusing on Jesus’ resurrection we realize that love transcends death, and so, we continue finding ways to remember, celebrate, and pray for our loved ones, even after they are gone.

Cultures have honored the dead for centuries; in the Mexican culture, we have the tradition of setting up altars that we call “Ofrendas,” or offerings. They are not to worship, but to honor our ancestors. The ofrendas include a variety of colors, aromas, and some personal items or favorite food of the deceased when they were alive. As part of our tradition, we share "pan de muerto" (bread) and hot chocolate as we tell beautiful stories of our dearly departed to the next generations of the family.

Como católicos, tenemos muchas festividades para honrar a aquellos cuyas vidas para nosotros, fueron un camino hacia la santidad. Oramos continuamente por nuestros fieles difuntos, pero el 2 de noviembre, Día de los Difuntos, nos reunimos como familias para honrarlos. Este día se llama oficialmente “La Conmemoración de Todos los Fieles Difuntos”. En nuestra fe católica, celebramos ese día visitando cementerios o los lugares del descanso final de nuestros seres queridos que han sido llamados a la presencia de Dios. También asistimos a la misa del Día de los Difuntos, ofreciendo una intención y haciendo una oración. Al centrarnos en la resurrección de Jesús, nos damos cuenta de que el amor trasciende la muerte y, por eso, que seguimos encontrando formas de recordar, celebrar y orar por nuestros seres queridos, incluso después de que ya no están con nosotros.



Las culturas han honrado a los muertos durante siglos; en la cultura mexicana tenemos la tradición de levantar altares a los que llamamos “Ofrendas”. No son para adorar, sino para honrar a nuestros antepasados. Las ofrendas incluyen una variedad de colores, aromas y algunos objetos personales o comida favorita del difunto cuando estaba vivo. Como parte de nuestra tradición, compartimos "pan de muerto" y chocolate caliente mientras relatamos, a las siguientes generaciones de la familia las hermosas historias de nuestros seres queridos que ya partieron.
