Creative associates who followed the call of being a church that goes forth!

This month, Ohio Pennsylvania Associate Leadership (OPAL) went to the Fest at the Center for Pastoral Leadership in Wickliffe, Ohio. They were there to create a Culture of Encounter by talking and sharing with everyone what the associates do and how to associate themselves with a religious community to share their mission and spirituality. The associates of the Sisters of Notre Dame and the Sisters of the Humility of Mary were present having fun and sharing information and stories.

Este mes, Ohio Pennsylvania Associates Leadership (Opal) fue al FEST en el Centro de Liderazgo Pastoral en Wickliffe Ohio. Fueron a crear una Cultura de Encuentro hablando y compartiendo con todas las personas lo que hacen los asociados y cómo asociarse con una comunidad religiosa para compartir su misión y espiritualidad. Donna Humphrey, an associate with the Sisters of Humility of Mary and a member of the OPAL Leadership Team, shares with us some important and interesting observations:

"Of all the people we talked to, NO ONE had ever heard of Associate programs "in religious communities before. It is obvious that we are one of the best kept secrets around.

"There were many Christians, non-Catholics at the event, drawn by the Christian music groups. But they were also interested in learning about associate programs. They wanted to know if you had to be Catholic to join and as we explained the relationships that developed with the sisters and priests and the deepening of faith through these relationships, we could see that being a Charism Carrier appealed to them. 

"There are many young people on fire for the faith. In our religious communities and associate programs, there are not many young people who are active participants. 

"Outreach is important! We must go to them to evangelize, and not wait for them to 'find' us." 

Donna Humphrey asociada de las Hermanas de Humility of Mary y miembro del equipo de liderazgo de OPAL, comparte con nosotros algunas observaciones importantes:

"De todas las personas con las que hablamos, nadie había oído hablar de los programas de asociados en comunidades religiosas. Es obvio que somos uno de los secretos mejor guardados que existen.
