Dear friends,

As summer unfolds, many of us welcome a change of pace. Longer days invite us outdoors, vacations offer opportunities for adventure and rest, and gatherings with family and friends remind us of the importance of connection. For some, this season also brings time for retreat, reflection, and renewal – an opportunity to pause amid life’s busyness and rediscover what matters most.

In this issue, we share stories that inspire us to do just that. We celebrate the news of an advancement in the cause for canonization of Servant of God Sister Blandina Segale, whose courageous witness continues to inspire us more than a century after her ministry began. We highlight the remarkable lives of Sisters whose faith-filled journeys continue to unfold in new ways, and we feature Sisters who continue to respond to the needs of our world with compassion and creativity.

As you enjoy the summer season, we hope these stories encourage you to embrace moments of rest, gratitude, and reflection. May they also inspire you to recognize the needs of our sisters and brothers and respond with love.

Vatican Theologians Advance Cause for Canonization of Sister Blandina Segale

In June, the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati welcomed news of a new milestone in the cause for canonization of Servant of God Sister Blandina Segale. CommonSpirit St. Joseph’s Children announced the update during a press conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Vatican theologians voted on May 28, 2026, to advance S. Blandina’s cause for further review by the bishops and cardinals before it is presented to the pope. While S. Blandina has not yet been declared Venerable, this development represents a significant step forward in the Church’s canonization process.

“The Sisters of Charity are profoundly grateful for the life of S. Blandina and her witness of faith, courage, and care for those most in need,” said S. Monica Gundler, president of the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati. “As her story continues to be shared with the world, we pray that her compassionate heart will inspire others to emulate her example of charity, justice, and service.”

Guided by a deep concern for those on the margins, S. Blandina devoted her life to recognizing the needs of the most vulnerable and to responding with courage, compassion, and action. Her legacy continues today through ministries that serve children, families, immigrants, and others in need.

Summer Retreat: From Lament to Thanks and Praise: Sing a New Song!

Using beautiful photographs of the Holy Land, we will explore the Book of Psalms and the lessons it offers for everyday life. The Psalms express a wide range of human emotions, including sadness, frustration, hope, gratitude, and joy. Together, we will reflect on how these ancient prayers can help us navigate life’s challenges and grow in resilience and faith. As we journey through the Psalms, we will discover how they move from struggle and sorrow toward thanksgiving, praise, and renewed hope.
