Fall days are coming. Schools are again opening their doors to in-person learning; yet, we hear of a teacher shortage emerging. More persons are experiencing extreme flooding in the U.S. and across the world. War in Ukraine and the threat of inflation looms large, but we remain a hopeful people. St. Hildegard of Bingen says, “Within the cosmos human beings are the thinking heart, called to be co-creators with God in shaping the world.” St. Vincent DePaul advised us, “Please be courageous and put your trust in God.” Following the wisdom of these saints whose feast days we celebrate this month, let’s have the courage to be thinking hearts! We can join others in seeing the positive in a situation, viewing the glass half full. Sharing thoughts that challenge the negative can influence outcomes and help to shape new attitudes. God walks with us; let’s take the challenge to be co-creators!
Our Motherhouse campus has re-opened to welcome walkers and visitors; come enjoy the beauty of nature here. We anticipate joining S. Romina Sapinoso as she professes her final vows as a Sister of Charity later this month and we make preparations for our Fall Congregational Days over the same weekend. We are helping to host communicators for congregations of women religious for the annual CWR conference here in Cincinnati at the end of the month. We are seeking a coordinator for Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation by October (www.srcharitycinti.org/contact-us/employment-opportunities/).With this issue of Charity in Motion we continue to share stories with you about the good that is happening among our Sisters, Associates and our ministries. We reach out to those in need. The ministry and mission of the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati continues to positively affect persons’ lives. Join us in daring to risk a caring response!
Sister of Charity of Cincinnati Romina Sapinoso to Profess Perpetual Vows
S. Romina Sapinoso (right) will profess final vows as a Sister of Charity of Cincinnati on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022.
The Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati are pleased to announce the Congregation will celebrate S. Romina Sapinoso’s profession of final vows during a liturgy on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022 at 4 p.m. ET in the Immaculate Conception Chapel at the Mount St. Joseph Motherhouse (Delhi Township).
Due to current precautions on the Motherhouse campus, the vow ceremony will be more intimate than the usual communal celebration. Only Sisters and invited guests will be present with S. Romina in the chapel. Friends of the Sisters of Charity Community are invited to join via livestream. The link will be posted on the home page of the Sisters of Charity website (www.srcharitycinti.org). A program to follow along will also be found on the website closer to the Sept. 24 date.
Please join us in keeping S. Romina in our prayers as she meets her grace in this moment of her commitment as a Sister of Charity of Cincinnati. Community members are most grateful for her ‘yes’ and for this joyful celebration of faithful witness, community and commitment.
Charity News & Notes
Filming Complete
Filming is complete on the set of “At the End of the Santa Fe Trail,” a movie based on the life of Servant of God, S. Blandina Segale. The film will include some footage from the 2017 television series pilot along with new scenes shot in Texas and New Mexico this year. The new footage mostly focuses on S. Blandina with actress Alma Sisneros returning to her role from the 2017 pilot. “At the End of the Santa Fe Trail” is based on S. Blandina’s journal entries and letters from her time spent in the West. Producers are hoping for a release in December, in conjunction with the 125th anniversary of Santa Maria, founded by S. Blandina and her blood sister, S. Justina.

Celebrating Our Jubilarians
It was a beautiful week of celebrations at the Mount St. Joseph Motherhouse as Sisters, Associates, family and friends honored the 2022 Jubilarians. Sisters celebrating special anniversaries in 2022 were recognized for their lives of service and faith with a Mass and luncheon on Sunday, Aug. 28 – the birthday of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.

Back to School
The Sisters of Charity Employee Activity Committee hosted a weeklong Back to School event in August. Employees and Sisters brought in school supplies, nominated a school to receive the supplies, and wore their school spirit, all in the name of fun and charity. With their generosity, 110 backpacks and more than 100 pounds of school supplies were collected. Holy Family, St. Dominic, St. Jude and Dater Montessori were extremely grateful to receive the donated supplies.

Around the Campus: Seton Green Space
Just west of the Motherhouse, the Seton green space now adorns the footprint of Seton Hall, which was taken down in the spring of 2021. Native plants, shrubbery and trees create a restful oasis for Sisters and visitors to relax and enjoy the beauty of the Mount. The green space provides a low maintenance garden that attracts and supports beneficial insects, especially pollinators like butterflies and bees, as well as regional and migrating bird species. The Seton green space is traversed by a 5-foot-wide ADA-compliant walkway and includes a patio with a fire pit, a water feature and benches throughout for all to sit, converse with friends and enjoy nature.
