The Babes of Wrath, a dynamic duo of grassroots activists with decades of experience fighting homelessness and poverty on the front lines are taking to the road again. To highlight their new, must-read books about children and adults experiencing homelessness, they are embarking on a 10- state book tour between mid-September to mid-October. The first stop on Wednesday, September 14 from 7:00 - 8:30 pm is a free presentation at Lake Villa District Library, Program Room A, 140 N Munn Rd. Lindenhurst, IL. Pat LaMarche’s book, Still Left Out in America, and the Priscilla book series, along with Diane Nilan’s book, Dismazed and Driven, will be available for sale. Their books provide a wealth of information and inspiration to those working with families and youth in schools and communities, and their presentations are tailored to their audiences.
The tour expects to wind through Chicago, IL; Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN; Billings, MT; Spokane, WA; Paradise, CA; Salt Lake City, UT; Albuquerque, NM; then through parts of Kansas. If you know of a library along the route that would welcome this discussion, please contact Pat LaMarche at epicjourney10@gmail.com to make the arrangements.

Priscilla for the Youngest

Although Priscilla's Picnic with the President was expected to be the final chapter of the Priscilla book series, you readers of past newsletters know that a fifth book, Priscilla and her Pals in the Park was recently added to the collection. Pat LaMarche's new book opens the door for loving adults to share this story of homelessness with younger children ages 4 through 8. It also provides an opportunity to enjoy even more of the charming drawings provided by Bonnie Tweedy Shaw.
Without giving too much away, the book features a curious young girl who races her mom to the park. There, she encounters Priscilla, a lovely old woman who answers all her questions. For the most part, Cora is satisfied with Priscilla’s answers ... until the end.
With the holiday season drawing close, you are encouraged to make donations to the Charles Bruce Foundation link below to secure your copies of the story.

If you wandered the streets of Carlisle on July 16 between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm, you were probably entertained by the sounds of the astounding musical group, Cumberland Honey. The duo, featuring Steph Landis and Virginia Masland, performed on East High Street by Whistlestop Bookshop, and represented the final Carlisle summer street musicians series proudly sponsored by the Charles Bruce Foundation. If you were not fortunate enough to hear them live, visit the WITF link below to get a small sampling of their musicianship and read a little about them.
