Kursid Kids Are Here
What happens when the imagination of a third grader meets the talents of a published author and an exceptional artist? You get the long-awaited book, Kursid Kids, by Ronan Russell, Pat LaMarche, and illustrator Aron Rook. Promoted Writers
2022 saw new books from writers young and old added to the Charles Bruce Foundation offerings. Pat LaMarche unexpectedly continued the Priscilla saga with a children's book feature, Priscilla and her Pals in the Park. Writer, Phyllis Orenyo, and artist, Chad Bruce brought us the holiday offering, A Magical Halloween. Dr. Stephen Kliewer’s brought us Thoughts Along the Way: Spiritual, Psychological, and Ethical Ponderings in the Time of Trump, aided by editor, Cheryl Dunn Bychek; proofreader, Lani Anacan Breidenstein; and designer, Max Donnelly. And, as detailed in the newletter's opening article, Ronan Russell, Pat LaMarche, and Aron Rook released Kursid Kids. Authors, J. M. West, Pat LaMarche, Phyllis Orenyo, and Sherry Knowlton provided assistance to writers through the Writing Fundamentals Workshop conducted at Bosler Memorial Library. Writers Phyllis Orenyo, Sam Rob, and Pat LaMarche provided assistance to young writers during the Summer Program for Youth. Finally, in collaboration with author J. M. West, Charles Bruce Foundation teamed up with Carlisle Arts Learning Center for an exhibit on the life of Carlisle’s most notorious resident, Bessie Jones, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of her murder

Promoted Artists
Art was popping for Charles Bruce Foundation in all forms in 2022! Devera Lang closed out 2021 with the book, From a Certain Distance, a collection of up-close nature photos. Murals were created by Ivy Rose and Bonnie Tweedy Shaw for the inside of B&L Caribbean restaurant, and by the students of Carlisle High School SHINES (Support, Hope, Included, Non-Judgmental, Encouraging and Strength), on the North St side of the Carlisle Antique Mall. Art offerings were blanketed in the Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project display on the Washington, DC Capitol Lawn and the Equity Quilt at the Beyond Suffrage: Reclaiming the Future event conducted by Cumberland County Historical Society. Artists Bonnie Tweedy Shaw and Wendy Tobin provided assistance to young artists during the Summer Program for Youth. Finally, the annual Charles Bruce Foundation coloring book featuring art by Chad Bruce, Holly Cameron, Pat Craig, Micah Davis-Culbertson, Max Donnelly, Gary Finelli, Terry Gayhart, Phil George, Jim Griffith, Eden Hill, Chris Kapp, Phil LaMarche, Devera Lang, Jason Seaux, Bonnie Tweedy Shaw, Noah Snoke, Cathy Stone, Wendy Tobin, and Claire Welch

Notable notes rang through Carlisle in 2022! Charles Bruce shared his harmonica skills in Zoom lessons for students at Sister Fausta Mtweve's St. Gertrude Pre Primary School in Kilimahewa, Tanzania. Pyxus played the Bosler Memorial Library; Brian Maag, Emmanuel Nsingani, and Cumberland Honey were featured Musicians on the Square; and Vincent Yarnell performed for the Carlisle Area Chamber of Commerce mixer
