January 2024 News

CBF Turns Ten Years Old

In February of 2014 the Charles Bruce Foundation received their federal designation as a 501c3 non profit. We will be celebrating all year! Keep checking these newsletters for more information.

In the meantime - here’s the story of our birth. In 2009 founder Chad Bruce returned to his home of Carlisle (grew up in Newville) after a successful professional career as an artist and musician. One he wouldn’t have had without the constant support of his loving parents - Charles and Mildred Bruce.

He started supporting local arts and music venues with his own money and called it the “Charles Bruce Foundation” even though it was just a grown man’s loving tribute.

Fast forward to 2011, he met Pat LaMarche who had vast experience with non profits. She encouraged him to become legit. They filed the paperwork in 2012, developed the slogan WAM! Helping Writers Artists and Musicians! And the rest is history. Since then the foundation has raised and spent nearly $400,000 - mostly from publishing books done by first time authors and illustrators. They’ve funded music festivals, paid housing and medical bills for struggling artists and musicians, and hosted massive art displays for people in need.

None of this could have been done without you. Thanks so much for making it all possible. Happy birthday to everyone who made this possible!

Ten for Ten

It is only January, so why are you seeing the logo for this year's Match Madness which isn't even scheduled to begin until March 1st? Glad you ask! As you just read, 2024 is a big year for The Charles Bruce Foundation. To celebrate our 10 years of sharing the talents of writers, artists, and musicians with you, we are setting a challenge of $10,000 in donations to our Match Madness campaign this year. We thank you all for your ongoing support, and we look forward to your contributions to our goal in March.
