Paint by Numbers
If your family was like many of ours, you probably had a picture of a cat or The Last Supper hanging somewhere in your home, lovingly hand-painted by a family member. If you were lucky, as a kid, you might have been able to paint some of the numbers yourself. And it was so much fun!

When Charles Bruce Foundation was invited by Connie Hollenbaugh to participate in SummerFair in Carlisle on June 24th at Dickinson Campus 9 am – 3 pm, we couldn't resist offering you the opportunity to take this trip down memory lane.

A whole community painting one work of art would require a massive picture. And a massive 8 foot by 4 foot easel (thank you Carlisle Tool Library and Create-a-Palooza!) It required a monstrously large paint by number picture (thank you Chad Bruce!) It required lots of paints and brushes (thank you Carlisle Arts Learning Center and Devera Lang). It required volunteers who are lining up to help. (thanks to too many of you to name – can’t wait to thank you in person!) The only thing left to create Pennsylvania’s largest paint-by-number is YOU.
Please join us at Summer Fair on Dickinson College as we recreate a beautiful childhood (we’ve got everything you need, just come on over and have some fun).
Or…. If making blankets is more your reminiscence jam, you can spend the day making squares for our blanket-in-a-day! It’s part of the third year’s launch of Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project events. Yes, you read that correctly; we will be taking our hand-made creations to the state capitol in Harrisburg this year. Expect to hear MUCH more about this December event in the coming days. In the meantime, use the link below for all the details about this year's Summer Fair. See you there!
Massive Book Launch
History on High-The Shop was once again the sight of a Charles Bruce Foundation book launch on June 10. The beautiful weather of the day even allowed us to set up right on the center of High Street in front of the store. The new book, If You Could Feed and Elephant written by Ashley E. Kauffman and illustrated by Bonnie Tweedy Shaw, takes children on an imaginary feeding trip to the zoo. Ashley's sing-song rhymes and Bonnie's expertly illustrated animals make the book a must-have for the beloved children in your life. Use the link below to secure a copies of the book for your loved ones!

Reading Matters
After sharing several Earth Day events with Dr. Christina Jarvis, we decided to take her advice and read one of Kurt Vonnegut's most environment-conscious books for this month's Pat LaMarche Book Club. Join our Zoom discussion on June 22nd beginning at 7:00 pm as we dissect this important novel. If you have never read the book before, we promise it is a quick and enjoyable read. If you feel you won't have time to read it before Tuesday, join us in the discussion anyway. It could be a very good way to encourage you to dive back into books. Use the first link below to learn more about the book club, then use the second link at the appointed time (7:00 pm Meeting ID: 824 4817 5223 Passcode: 200829) next Tuesday to launch into our exclusive Zoom chat. Happy reading!
It Is Finished
In last month's newsletter, we shared with you the progress Chad Bruce was making on the latest mural gracing Carlisle. We are proud to announce that the work has been completed! We are quite sure Rick Griffin, who inspired this piece with his original Artist at Large, would be honored by this tribute.
