October News
Recognizing Homeless Awareness Month
November is Homeless Awareness Month. November 6th also brings the closing installment of Priscilla's adventures in the park with the release of book four, and there are many ways for you to take part. You can join Pat LaMarche and Bonnie Tweedy Shaw at Bosler Library between 1:00-3:00 pm that day in meeting room B as they conduct a writer's workshop about creating a book series. You can visit History on High on Nov. 13 or Whistlestop Books on Nov. 20 from 12:00-1:30 pm to have your Priscilla books signed. If you are outside the Carlisle area and would like a book signing where you are, we would love to do a book signing at any location you can set up where you are. You can use the link below to pre-order the final Priscilla book or the complete set. You might even consider purchasing a few extra copies for loved ones during this holiday season.
Women Who Dare
The Winning Adventure, a website founded by author Rae Luskin, is holding a Creative Activist Virtual Summit online from November 8-14. The theme of the summit is Women Who Dare, and it will feature conversations with more than 20 people. In the words of the website, the summit will allow you to, "Join a global community of brilliant, loving, supportive, visionary women working at the intersection of arts, health, and social change." Why is this important for supporters of The Charles Bruce Foundation? Among the people being interviewed is foundation board member, Pat LaMarche. If you are interested in hearing the topics discussed by Pat or any of the other women who dare, you can register to claim a free 48-hour access ticket for use between Nov. 8-14, 2021 using the link below.

The Wait Is Coming To An End
If the proof is in the pudding, then Invisible is proofs positive. The glossy pages of the upcoming comic book highlight the excellent quality of the graphics work done by illustrator, Jason Seaux and colorist, Chad Bruce. As importantly, the story crafted by Pat LaMarche and her brother, Phil LaMarche brings a deeper meaning to the title, superhero. Unfortunately, in the words of Pink Floyd, "You can't have any pudding if you don't eat your meat!" Enter The Charles Bruce Foundation's official Armistice Day launch party! Plenty of meaty goodness will be provided to all those who attend. If you are interested in attending the official launch party, use the link to the Facebook event page below and click on the tab to let us know you are going. If you aren't able to attend the launch party in person, a Facebook Live video feed will be provided so you won't have to miss a thing. We also encourage you to pre-order your copies of Invisible using our donation link below. Better yet, we would love to see you designate 20 copies of the comic to the Veteran's Administration Hospital of your choice with the $100 donation option located on the Invisible square space.
Storytelling Success
Fall temperatures chilled the air during the live reading of Under the Apple Tree at Dan Wakefield Park, but participants at the event were warmed by the voices of various readers from the Indianapolis community. Among the readers were students, teachers, librarians, and friends of author Dan Wakefield. There were even members of a local library live reading book club who were excited to see this activity move outdoors. The Charles Bruce Foundation has supported live readings in the Carlisle area several times, reading from novels including Slaughterhouse-Five, The Grapes of Wrath, and A Christmas Carol. This was the first time that a live reading has been sponsored in another state, but the success of the reading suggests that more readings outside of Pennsylvania should take place in the future.
Note of Reminder: A Chill Is Setting In
Chances are that as we go deeper into the fall season, you are beginning to feel a certain chill in the air. To help persons experiencing homelessness feel less chilled, we remind you to help with the Homeless Memorial Blanket Project. You are invited to lend your artistic talents to the project which will provide much-needed warmth as the temperatures tumble. Please join the Facebook group at the link below for project details, and join us on December 21st at 5:00 pm at Memorial Park in Carlisle as the blankets are displayed.
