General guidelines for artwork submissions for group shows
- Each artist may submit a maximum of two 2-dimensional (all galleries) artworks for consideration. There is no submission fee.
- Two-dimensional art must be properly wired, and ready for hanging.
- Artworks must be original and created by the submitting artist.
- A variety of media is encouraged: oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, pen and ink, mixed media, and photos.

Artwork entries must be submitted electronically as low-resolution, digital images (.jpg) to [email protected] or [email protected]
The email must include the following information
- Artist’s name
- Artist’s mailing address
- Artist’s email address
- Artist’s phone number
- Artist’s biography (half-page max, in .docx format)
- Artist’s headshot (.jpg)
- Title of artwork
- Medium/materials used
- Size/dimensions
- Year created
- Price, if applicable
Artists who have previously shown in one of the galleries are invited to submit the works to a different gallery, or new works to any gallery.

2023 RIVER CONCERT SERIES
Presented by the Chesapeake Orchestra & St. Mary’s College of Maryland
St. Mary’s College of Maryland, along with the Chesapeake Orchestra and its Music Director Jeffrey Silberschlag, are proud to announce dates for the 2023 River Concert Series.
A Southern Maryland tradition now in its 25th season, this family-friendly music festival, and winner of two Governor’s Awards for Arts, Tourism, and Community Economic Development will be held on the St. Mary’s College Townhouse Green. The programs will be on Friday evenings at 7 p.m. starting on June 23, and continuing until July 21.
The concerts and parking are free and open to the public. There are on-site vendors who offer food and beverages for purchase, though you are also welcome to bring your own. Blankets and/or lawn chairs are recommended; but please, leave your pets at home. We love your furry friends, but they are not allowed at the River Concerts.

A brave Scottish general named Macbeth receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become King of Scotland. Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife, Macbeth murders King Duncan and takes the Scottish throne for himself. He is then wracked with guilt and paranoia. Forced to commit more and more murders to protect himself from enmity and suspicion, he soon becomes a tyrannical ruler. The bloodbath and consequent civil war swiftly take Macbeth and Lady Macbeth into the realms of madness and death. Director’s Vision – This production will explore the timeless tale of the corruption of power from a new and modern point of view. The play will be anchored in the traditional eleventh century Scottish Highlands with the set and the portrayal of Macbeth himself. But the rest of elements of the show will be drawn from the pages of history or the big screen. In the true spirit of the Bard himself this will be a show where everyone will feel included and understood. We are not standing on traditions; we will lay out the book of history before the audience and show them all the crushing circumstances that have us all re-reading the same page over and over again and never learning from it. | | |

James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece... and a rare modern classic. The Tony Award-winning book and score are both enchanting and touching.
The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.
One of Sondheim's most popular works, Into the Woods is a musically sophisticated show with the opportunity to feature actors adept at dark comedy. Designers will especially enjoy highlighting the fantastical elements of this magical word.

Youth ages 7-17 are welcome to join us for a week of creativity, fun, and adventure as we explore the world of Japanese art and culture through a kawaii and anime lens.
From drawing and painting to sculpture and 3D printing, our camp will introduce campers to a variety of artistic styles and genres. All artwork will reflect positive themes. Campers will have the opportunity to display their work at The UTA Kawaii & Anime Art Exhibit.

JUNE 2023 NOTABLE AUTHOR:
LAURA AMY SCHLITZ
Laura Amy Schlitz was born and raised in the Baltimore area and graduated from Hereford High School in Parkton. She then attended Goucher College, graduating in 1977 with a degree in aesthetics, a major she designed herself. Her dream was to be an actress, but it didn’t work for her so she took a job with the Enoch Pratt Library - Fells Point branch.
There she excelled at telling children’s stories, probably because it was similar to acting. Then a friend asked her to write an adaptation of Beauty and the Beast for the Children’s Theater Association. Schlitz completed the adaptation in 10 days. The compliments she received for the script turned on a light in her and she realized she was a writer, not an actress.

The Charles County Chapter of the Maryland Writers Association assists new and established writers from the basics of the craft, editing, traditional and self-publication, marketing and many other aspects of writing. The Chapter coordinates book signings at various events throughout the year, and coordinated writing events to the Mattawoman Creek Art Center. The Chapter meets at Christ Church, 112 Charles Street, La Plata at 6 PM every third Wednesday of the month for a Critique Group, followed by a business meeting and writing prompts at 7 PM.

About the Charles County Arts Alliance, Inc.
The mission of the Charles County Arts Alliance (CCAA) is to stimulate, promote, encourage, and provide recognition of the arts and the creative spirit. Founded in 1987, the CCAA promotes ALL the arts in Charles County: music, visual art, drama, dance and literature.
The CCAA is the official arts council of Charles County and is recognized as such by the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC), an agency of the Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED) of the State of Maryland. In this capacity, the CCAA serves as the "umbrella" organization for the arts community in Charles County. The CCAA promotes Charles County arts organizations and individuals, provides financial support to nonprofit organizations and the schools through its annual arts grant programs, sponsors the creation and presentation of new, diverse cultural activities and special events for the community, provides arts scholarships, and ensures the Charles County's under-served population, people with disabilities, residents with limited income, minorities, and senior citizens have access to the arts. The CCAA builds partnerships with local government, the business community and the educational community, in an effort to enhance the overall quality of life for the citizens of Charles County.
