Welcome to the February 2023 Drew Newsletter! This monthly newsletter will contain upcoming University events, reminders about important dates, and summer engagement opportunities.

Fall 2023 Enrollment Information
IMPORTANT: Fall 2023 enrollment by appointment begins March 13, immediately following spring break. Be sure to meet with Ariel in February to prevent rushing during enrollment periods.

Effective Study Groups
Drew is partnering with students to provide structured and productive study groups for the 2023 Spring semester!

Drew Scholarships and Awards
Alumni Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is exclusively available for Drew students. Eligibility includes: completing at least two years in the program, returning in the Fall, maintaining a 3.0 cumulative GPA, and participating in volunteer or community experience.

Scholarships due March 1st.

Dr. Charles Richard Drew Graduating Senior Awards
Drew students have the opportunity to nominate themselves or a fellow peer for a Dr. Charles Drew Outstanding Student Award. These awards will be presented at the Senior Dinner on April 23, 2023.

Award nomination and materials due March 15th.

Team Drew is looking to hire NSC 100/200 teaching assistants, office assistants, peer academic coaches, and peer mentor volunteers!

All positions require the student to have taken or be currently enrolled in NSC 200.

Inside Look at MSUCOM (February 11th)
As a Drew student, you have the opportunity to be a part of the Drew Osteopathic Medical Pathway Program! This visit will let students learn more about the Osteopathic medicine track by talking to physicians and medical students.

The sign-up has been extended so sign up ASAP.
Mission SMART Virtual Mock MMI (February 9th)
The Drew Scholars Program and MSU's College of Human Medicine will be hosting this mock multiple mini-interview event to help students prepare for the traditional interview style. Due to limited capacity, only 16 spots are available so register soon!

This group's mission is to empower women through both professional and academic development, as well as role models.

Meeting are held on the last Thursday of every month.
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging
Slavery to Freedom: An American Odyssey
The Dr. William G. Anderson Lecture Series: Slavery to Freedom gives members of the mid-Michigan community opportunities to interact with multicultural leaders from education, business, industry, entertainment and government.

Amplify STEM: Celebrating Black History Month (February 10)
Join Dr. Ebony McGee as she discusses her research and recently published book "Black, Brown, Bruised: How Racialized STEM Education Stifles Innovation."

Resume and Cover Letter Workshop (February 7th)
The Career Services Network is hosting a hybrid resume and cover letter workshop! Students will gain insight into writing strong bullet points, resume formatting, cover letter information, and applicant tracking systems.

Enriching Your Summer Experience
Career Development
12 universities across the US are offering undergraduates the opportunity to develop skills via clinical experience, basic math and science, financial planning and learning and study skills seminars. Note that each university offers different program dates, program styles and compensations.

Kellogg Biological Station is offering paid summer internships and research opportunities! No prior research experience is needed.

Deadline: February 15
Undergraduate Research
This 10-week program is for undergraduates who have an interest in healthcare and biomedical research. Students will have the opportunity to understand health disparities and their impact on health outcomes, and present research at the University of Michigan symposium.

Deadline: February 3
The Big Ten Academic Alliance programs are directed towards students interested in pursing a PhD. These programs will allow students to prepare for graduate programs via workshops, weekly enrichment opportunities and a research symposium to present your research project.

Deadline: February 10
Ohio State University is offering a 10 week program for students to experience in hands on research and professional development. Students majoring in STEM with an emphasis or interest in biomechanics or mechanobiology should consider applying.

Deadline: February 10
During this 9-week program, students will be paired with a mentor to complete a research project based on a topic of mutual interest. Undergraduates will engage in workshops and social activities during the program period as well.

Deadline: February 12
This summer research internship is founded on advancing the study of biological molecules by using X-ray Free Electron Lasers (XFELs). Students with a background in chemistry, math, physics, biochemistry, computer science and all other related fields are encouraged to apply.

Deadline: February 17th
Participants in the BRUSH Undergraduate Summer Program will work with a mentor to complete a project in cardiovascular, blood or airway diseases and environmental science. Undergraduates interested in professional school (graduate, medical or veterinary) should consider applying.

Deadline: February 15th

Off-Campus Student Resources
The MSU Student Food Bank is active! Students are able to visit once per week per HOUSEHOLD. If you would like to make an appointment or learn more information, visit their website HERE.
Drew Scholars Advising
Ariel will hold drop-in advising periods every Monday and Friday during the Spring 2023 semester.

Mondays: 1-5PM (Unavailable February 6)

Fridays: 1-3:30PM

Drop-in hours are not observed during Spring Break.
