Awakened Joy

From the article by Rev. Margaret Flick at unityonline.org

In The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World by the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the Dalai Lama explains how to cultivate joy.

"Joy is the reward, really, of seeking to give joy to others. When you show compassion, when you show caring, when you show love to others, do things for others, in a wonderful way you have a deep joy that you can get in no other way. You can't buy it with money. You can be the richest person on Earth, but if you care only about yourself, I can bet my bottom dollar you will not be happy and joyful. But when you are caring, compassionate, more concerned about the welfare of others than about your own, wonderfully, wonderfully, you suddenly feel a warm glow in your heart, because you have, in fact, wiped the tears from the eyes of another."

Joy can be a connection with other people, with nature, and with other beings. It is the wonder, the delight, the welling up of loving energy-so that we feel our connection to God in all its forms-that brings forth the light of the soul as joy. It can be the joy of the first snowfall, the first signs of spring, the birth of a child, the stars at night. It is seeing the miracle of life and celebrating it.

YFM Lessons
In July our youth began 8 months of lessons based on the Buddhist Eightfold Path.  Each month will feature a single theme with a variety of stories and activities supporting the learning experience. There will also be Unity principles and ideas woven into each lesson. Please listen to the youth report on Sunday and engage the younger congregants to see what you can learn from them! July's theme is "Right Speech" in alignment with Unity's belief in the power of our thoughts and words.

Air Conditioning
Fundraising
Almost There!
We are getting there... Thank you to everyone who has donated.  Please consider a donation to the Air Conditioning fund to finish off that final $334!  We can do this and we know the abundance of a generous Universe pours forth in infinite supply.

Calling All Prayer Chaplains

Have you ever thought Spirit might be calling you to be a prayer chaplain?  Wondering how being a chaplain might change your personal prayer practice?

Our next Prayer Chaplain training will be September 7th, from 9am to 3pm.  You must be a ULV member ( or in membership classes) to be a Prayer Chaplain.  If you would like more information or want to apply to become a prayer chaplain, please contact Rick Stober or Wilma Alvarez.

Next UP Meeting

Join the Board on July 28th for the next UP Meeting. UP stands for Unlimited Possibilities and these meetings are opportunities to interact with your Unity Board of Trustees.  Ask questions, hear reports, and provide input on the vision and growing edges of ULV.

Updates on projects, the class interest survey and more will be discussed.    We co-create an awakened world TOGETHER!  Please participate.

Guest Musician
Charles Lee

Join us this Sunday as our Guest Musician will be Charles Lee.  He might be joined by a surprise speaker.  Plan to attend!

What Was That Song?

Got a song from church stuck in your head, but can't remember all of it? Want to hear the music from Sunday again?  Need a little pick me up during the week?  Want to know more about one of the songs and who the artist is?  Need some inspiration?  Or just some comfort from something familiar?   Now you can have all that!   Hear the music sung by the original artist! It's the songs that we sing every Sunday on our new YouTube Playlist ----

ULV Music is a playlist especially designed for you!!!

What are you grateful for?

Thank you to Marisa Lenci for stepping up to Greet on Sunday.

Reverend Joy is grateful for the surprise treats at the Board meeting and the flowers from the Board in celebration of her birthday.
