Charleson, SC

April 28 - May 3

Our Charleston adventure is just around the corner, and we couldn’t be more excited! Time is flying by, and soon, we’ll be soaking in the city's rich history, exploring beautiful sights, and making unforgettable memories together. Please read this email carefully, as it contains important details to prepare for our trip. Get ready for an incredible journey—Charleston is waiting!

Important Information

☑️ We will be departing from the Home Depot in Johnstown on Monday, April 28 at 8:00 am. Please note: The bus will arrive at 7:30 am, but boarding will begin at 7:45 am. I will need a few minutes to distribute some important information before we get started.

☑️ Each passenger is limited to 1 suitcase which will be stored in the bus's luggage bay. Please note: You will NOT have access to this bag during our en-route hotel stays. Our en-route hotels are not set up for luggage handling. Please pack everything you will need for those nights, including medications, in an overnight bag. Overnight bags should be small in size since they will be stored inside the cabin of the bus. Please note: Once I have the bus driver's contact information, I will ask him if we can store our overnight bags under the bus.

☑️ I will send two luggage tags for each person (one for your checked bag and one for your overnight bag) via the USPS. Please note: All luggage tags will be sent to one person in your group. If I will see you in person before the trip, I will hand deliver the tags to save on postage. Please remember to attach the tags to your luggage, especially the luggage that will be handled by the hotel.

☑️ For those of you who have purchased travel protection, I will also send your insurance card via the USPS. Again, if I will see you in person, I will hand deliver it.

☑️ I will have a name tag for each member of the group. I will plan to have these on the bus before everyone boards. You are encouraged to wear your name tag during the trip to help greeters and tour guides identify the members of our group.

☑️ I have had a few requests from people to be seated in the front of the bus. I will try to accommodate the requests as best as possible. To this end, I will assign seats for everyone. Your name tag will be sitting on your assigned seat.

☑️ I have some fun activities planned to help pass the time during our journey. Please bring a pen with you. (There will be prizes!)

☑️ We will also plan to play Bingo during our trip. If interested, please bring $4 to participate ($2 for the ride to Charleston and $2 for the ride home.) We'll play 10 games of Bingo each day of travel ($2 per session). Of course, you don't have to play any/all sessions!

A Note About Gratuities

💰 A tip for our bus driver was NOT included in the price of your trip. Bus Drivers earn a large part of their income from tips. Tipping standards for drivers are generally established in the travel industry. Drivers are aware of what the standard tip would be on any trip, based on the length of the trip.

The generally accepted standard for tips for a bus driver is as follows:

$3 per day (per person) is customary.

6-Day Trip: $3 x 6 days = $18 per person

As a passenger, you are free to tip whatever amount you feel is appropriate based on the quality of the service you receive. However, please keep in mind the driver depends on this income for his or her livelihood.

I will put a tipping envelope in everyone's information packet (which will be waiting for you on the bus) to make collection more convenient.

💰 During our Charleston tour, we will have a step-on guide. It is customary to tip $1 per person for every 1-2 hours of the tour. Please consider showing appreciation by tipping our guide during the tour. (The best time to give the tip will probably be when we get off or on the bus at the Joseph Manigault House.)

💰 For pre-paid meals, the gratuity has already been pre-paid by Diamond Tours.

Fun Fact

The Historic Charleston City Market has been the cultural heart of Charleston since 1807 and is one of the oldest public markets in the United States! Originally a place where locals bought meat and produce, today, it’s a vibrant hub filled with unique handcrafted goods—including the famous sweetgrass baskets, a Gullah tradition passed down for generations.

This is the second email sent about the Charleston trip. Please ensure you’ve reviewed the first email, which included the itinerary.
