What Charlie's Students have to say  . . .
Alyssa Vellis
I have been taking the "Winning the Commercial Audition" class with Charlie and it has been an amazing experience! Prior to this class I had gone to various commercial auditions and felt quite nervous about what was going to happen in the audition room. I now have confidence and feel prepared when I go into my auditions, whether it is for commercial or film.
The tools I have learned from Charlie and the Mosaic Acting System have been priceless. -

Before we wrap up our series on nervousness, I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday Season.  This is been a wonderful year.  So many great people have come into my and Holly's lives, and we hope you know how much we appreciate the love and support you've given us.  You are a huge part of our lives, and we love you dearly.  Now before I get all teary-eyed (you all know what a softy I am)  let's get back to Nervousness.
When you know what to expect and know what to do, nervousness is much easier to control if you're prepared.  How do you prepare? First of all, get the sides (and if possible read the entire script) a soon as possible. When you get them, don't just work on memorizing the lines. As I always say in my classes, "It ain't about the words, it's what the words are about." First of all, analyze the scene. Always think in terms of the character and ask yourself - who am I? What is my occupation? My relationship status? My physical status? My psychological status? When does the scene take place? What year, month, day, and time? What is my environment? Exactly where am I? What surrounds me? Whom am I with and what is my relationship to them? What do I want from the other person or persons in the scene? What do I do to get what I want? And most importantly, how do I feel about what's going on in the scene? Make some choices, then sit and visualize the scene. Once you've accomplished all of this, then is the time to begin to familiarize yourself with the lines. You'll find that once you've done this kind of analysis the lines will be much easier to memorize. Incidentally, if you don't have the lines completely memorize that's okay. Of course, the better you know the lines, the more eye contact you'll be able to make with the reader. Even if you do have the lines memorized always take the script in which you, so you'll have it as a security blanket. You'll find that when you've done this kind of preparation you'll be much more confident and your audition will go much more smoothly. Remember, the better prepared you are the less nervous you'll be. To recap: know what to expect, know what to do, and be prepared.
Here's to success in your next audition!

JANUARY 4 - JANUARY 25

Learn from someone who has appeared in more than fifty Movies and TV shows!

Acting for camera uses a different set of skills than acting on stage. Charlie brings his experience in more than 50 movies and TV shows to this is a "nuts and bolts" class for actors at all levels who want to develop or improve their skills in front of the camera. The first half of each class is spent explaining and practicing various special problems confronting the film/TV actor, such as: hitting the mark, finding your light, overlaps, set protocol, stunt work, etc. In the second half of each class, participants work from movie and TV scripts using those techniques. As class size is limited to a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 12 new students, pre-registration is required to ensure a spot. Don't wait; the last class sold out quickly!
Tuition is only $300 (students who have taken this class may repeat for $200 if space is available.) This very popular class usually fills quickly, so to ensure a space register with your credit card or PayPal (3% surcharge) click below

"I have worked with Ray Nakamoto on many of my students voice demos and we're always happy with the finished product.

Ray offers an extensive music and sound effects library, a surgeon's skill in audio editing and a musician's ear to make everything flow together into a voiceover masterpiece."

MOSAIC ACTING/MEDIA CASTING GROUP

I've had the pleasure of knowing and working with Ray Nakamoto for many years. Ray is the ultimate professional, and no one knows the voice-over business like he does. In addition to his production skills, Ray has an amazing "ear" for knowing how to bring out the very best for his clients and students.
When I was ready to have my voice demo re-done, I naturally went to Ray. Not only does he do a fabulous job technically, but he also knows how to select the right material for your voice and guide you through the recording process to make sure you do your best.

 Casting Notice:
MR. NORTH / MALE / All Ethnicities / 40+
Small, integral role for a short film. MR. NORTH is a distinguished, high-level corporate executive - a CEO-type. The actor will ideally have the essence and gravitas of such a position. The very few lines are mostly improvisational pleas for his life, expressiveness is key with ability to play different levels. Actor must be comfortable being restrained to a chair and having mouth tied with a handkerchief for short periods of time. Safety and comfort is always a high priority, but just letting you know what to expect. Having your own business suit, shirt, and tie is a plus. This is a fun script with a twist.

Shoot Dates: TBD, aiming for 1 day in January on a weekend.
Auditions: You'll be contacted for a video submission. Decisions will be made by end of
                 December 2013.

KIDS AND PARENTS LOVE SLEEPING BEAUTY
The emphasis is on comedy in this musical adaptation of the classic fairy tale.
A delightful group of characters are assembled, that young audiences will find as enchanting as the magic in the story itself. There's Chester the Jester, Typsy the Gypsy and the Royal Magician who is so inept he transforms himself into a frog. And there's the evil Thornberry, who puts the curse on Princess Elaine (the "sleeping beauty") and the brave Prince Dauntless who battles the fire-breathing dragon to break the magic spell.
Add ten tuneful songs to this zany story and the entire family will be in for a delightful theatre experience.

Playwrights Collaborative Meeting

JANUARY 5 PLAYWRIGHTS COLLABORATIVE MEETING AT THE CALIFORNIA STAGE THEATRE:

At the Sunday, January 5 Playwrights Collaborative Meeting (7:00 PM) we will again read 4 short plays: Steven Schenck's "Cell Phone This."and Gene Griffith's "The Voyage of the Stormship", "United States vs Claus, Santa", and "IQ." This workshop is at the California Stage Theatre, 2509 "R" Street (on "R" Street between 25th and 26th Streets), Sacramento.

For further information or if you have a play you would like workshopped, contact Gary Agid, chairman, at gary@agid.com (916-383-9267) .
--------- ---------- ---------- -------
Workshops are monthly (or occasionally twice monthly) on Sundays on dates to be announced. There are no dues, fees or other charges for participating. Staged readings may be scheduled occasionally by playwrights.

"The Playwrights Collaborative is an organization of writers, actors, directors and others interested in the theater, working together to promote the development and production of new plays in Sacramento and elsewhere. Through a cooperative process of peer review, Playwrights Collaborative assists in making plays ready for production and helps in finding suitable venues where shows might be performed."

WORKSHOPS: At each workshop, original plays by local writers are read and discussed as are ways to promote deserving works for production. Several theaters have expressed an interest in producing one new original play per year and Playwrights Collaborative has encouraged similar interest by other theatres in the area. There will also be occasional speakers with expertise in various aspects of theater.

STAGED READINGS: Playwrights participating in the Sunday workshops will be scheduling occasional "staged readings" of plays that have been developed sufficiently to be ready for production. A staged reading is a play production with the actors holding scripts.

Playwrights Collaborative invites interested writers and actors to attend and take part in the workshop readings which can lead to invitational staged readings of new works. The group actively promotes new plays to prospective producers. Following each reading, comments and suggestions for improvement will be solicited from all who are present.
