Four residents of a retirement home have had their life savings stolen by a smoothtalking financial advisor. Pandemonium ensues as the four retirees try to find a way to exact their revenge, recoup their losses and keep the authorities from discovering their plans. Cost: $22, $11 students.

Raffaele Ponti, maestro of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, with guest artists will feature the music and composers of the CSO season. Cost: $20. Similar events will be held prior to each concert.

The rarely heard Concerto for Double Bass by Koussevitzky will feature the extraordinary Leonid Finkelshteyn on bass, and is a great opportunity to hear what this instrument is capable of when showcased. Maestro Ponti describes the piece as “a rare chance to hear the bass transformed into a solo voice as if it were a violin.” Finkelshteyn joins the Punta Gorda Symphony as a guest artist in the season opener. Pre-performance Talk: Musical Conversations with John Davis will be at 6:30 p.m. for all concert ticketholders.

Florida SouthWestern State College Auditorium | 26300 Airport Road, Punta Gorda
Visit Florida's capital as it appeared 370 years ago -- a town where the local native Americans and Spanish settlers lived and worked in harmony and mutual support. Recreated on the actual site is a Franciscan mission church, a native council house, private residences and businesses along with a fort for defense. Cost: $15 members, $25 non-members.

Anyone with a desire to paint outside may join us any Monday October to May. There are no fees and no instruction. For those who wish, at 11 a.m. paintings are shared and discussed. This group meets at a different location each week.

Learn how to create both abstract and realistic pieces with a unique and versatile medium. Cost: $280 members, $350.

Pine Needle Baskets Half-Day Workshop with Kathryn Erickson
Saturday, Nov. 23, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Also on Saturday, Jan. 25, Feb. 1, and March 28.
If you can sew, you can learn how to form pine needles into a piece of art. Learn to coil pine needles and finish basket on your own. Nothing but patience is needed! Cost: $80 members, $100.


Three-hour art classes for four or more students. Students provide their own materials, although I do help out beginners until they learn what materials they need.
Cost: $15.

Introduction to Quilling with Carol Berntsson
Monday, Nov. 11, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Quilling is essentially the art of paper sculpture which can be mastered easily following the basic technique and using the materials provided in this introductory workshop. Students will be provided with the materials and equipment that will enable them to develop a hobby that produces lovely accents, ornaments, and 3D pictures to enhance gifts and cards. Cost for class #WS-111 with supplies: $35 members; $38 non-members.

Lapidary-Cutting Stones with Tony Poliseno
Every Tuesday, Nov. 11 to Dec. 17, 6 to 8 p.m.
This class teaches the cutting of natural stones, including preparation of faceting stones into angles and shapes and into sparkling, polished gems for jewelry. Cost for class #702-2: $61 members, $69 non-members.

Mix & Understand Color in Painting with David Petrelle
Every Tuesday, Nov. 19 to Dec. 17, 1 to 4 p.m.
The object of this class is to teach how to mix color and understand it. When you paint you also have to understand black and with values and all the tones in-between. Most people have trouble mixing color as beginners. They must learn the difference, how the eye mixes color, how each of us sees color, how color can change in different light and how it relates to its application in art. By understanding this, you can isolate what colors to purchase and how to set up your palate. Cost of class #380-2: $56 members, $64 non-members.

Watercolor All levels with Skip Mattie
Every Thursday, Nov. 21 to Dec. 19, 9 a.m. to Noon
Learn the basics of watercolor painting, the equipment needed such as paper, paints, brushes, etc., how to prepare and get the image on paper, and how to do washes and detail work. We will complete some paintings and the student can paint a favorite subject with assistance. Cost of class #337-2: $56 members, $64 non-members.

Paint Pour Adventures: The Basics with Pam Schmidt
Friday, Nov. 22, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Put down the brushes and pick up a cup because we are going to flip some paint onto a canvas. Start the adventure by learning the basics of acrylic paint pouring, also known as Fluid Art. This fun class is completely hands-on from mixing your own paints to flipping your own cups. You will quickly become addicted to this art form and amazed at the beautiful abstract painting that you will create with your very first canvas. You will learn the proper way of mixing your paints and loading your cups for the perfect pour. You will also learn how to manipulate the canvas to alter the flow and shape of your artwork. Clay Winter Candle Luminary with Pam Cox
Thursday, Nov. 26, 1 to 4 p.m.
Make a candle luminary with unglazed terracotta clay so that you will have a fantastic lighted decoration for your home or garden. All tools are provided but if you have experience with clay, you are welcome to bring your own. This is a fun workshop for beginners or those with some clay experience. Cost for class #WS-1145 with supplies: $38 members, $41 non-members.
