Charter school sponsor St. Aloysius Orphanage illustrates another flaw in the state's charter policy

The state's charter policy reeks with the potential for corruption, nepotism, outrageous business alliances, profits, etc.; all of which diminish educational opportunities for school children in both district and charter schools.

St. Aloysius Orphanage in Cincinnati has a scam going. It sponsors 42 charters in Ohio, most of which have less than stellar performances. St. Aloysius does not do the work of a sponsor. It hires a for-profit company-Charter School Specialists-to do the oversight work. This arrangement is a clever way for St. Aloysius to make money without doing the work of a sponsor. The for-profit contractor, of course, is in business to make a profit. In the charter world, lots of adults profit at the expense of students.

This and a plethora of other sleazy arrangements lessens educational opportunities for both charter students and school district students.
