Woof…We Did It Again!

Spartanburg Community College announced the “Live to Chase Initiative,” a re-imagined design to deliver free tuition for all the College’s more than 70 different programs of study through the Fall of 2024.

The initiative will focus on promoting persistence and the willingness to chase by requiring recipients to be enrolled in a program that awards either a certificate or degree and maintain at least a 2.2 GPA. Students will have to either live or work full-time in South Carolina, complete a FAFSA, and take a minimum of six credit hours.

"Over the past two years Spartanburg Community College has redefined the definition of higher education opportunity for thousands of individuals that live to chase their dreams, and this momentum in talent development to meet workforce demands has solidified a strong foundation for future economic growth and prosperity," SCC President, Dr. Michael Mikota, said.

"During this 60th year in the history of the College, all the communities we serve bask in the shining pride that 6,300 Chasers are showcasing their talents that may not have been realized without this opportunity. With this new 'Live to Chase Initiative,' we strive to recognize those students that commit to the chase and realize their full potential," Dr. Mikota continued.

ASL Club Visits SC School for the Deaf & Blind

The SCC ASL Club went to the SCSDB recently to “read” to the students for Read Across America Week.

They celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday every year, and ASL Club works to translate the story chosen each year into ASL rhyme (which is different than English rhyme).

After the story, our students were able to interact with their students, and everyone enjoyed it!

SAVE THE DATE: Wellness Screening

The Preventive Worksite Wellness Screening for employees covered by the State Health Plan and their PEBA-covered spouse will be held at SCC on Tuesday, April 11, 2023. Registration information will be sent a couple of weeks prior to the event date.

Information on the Wellness Screening:

This screening, a $300 value in many healthcare settings, is offered at no cost to employees, retirees, COBRA subscribers, and covered spouses whose primary insurance coverage is the State Health Plan (Standard or Savings Plan). You will receive your results within three weeks after your screening, highlighting any values outside the normal range.

You can send your results to your physician or take a copy with you on your next doctor's office visit. This may save you money and keep you from duplicating tests.

Preventive Screening components include:

  • Lipid profile: total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and triglycerides
  • Chemistry profile: Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine, glucose, electrolytes, chloride, and bicarbonate
  • Hemogram: Red and white blood count, hemoglobin, and hematocrit
  • Blood pressure, height, and weight

Terms and conditions:

  • The health screening requires a 12-hour fasting prior to your appointment time. You may drink water during this 12-hour period. If you take medications, please continue to do so.
  • Plan allows for one preventive screening per calendar year (January-December).
  • Dependent children are not eligible.
  • If Medicare or Tri-care is your primary insurance you are not eligible to receive a screening at no cost.

Optional Screenings:

Click here for a list of optional tests and their prices. Insurance claims are not filed for these tests, as they are out of pocket expenses. If you would like to add any of these optional tests to your screening, please list them in the comment box on your registration and bring a check made out to COHSG with you to the screening.
