This is the 8 th edition of the Chatham Borough Newsletter!  Each quarter, our newsletter will arrive via email to remind you of important upcoming events, key dates, and general information about what's happening in the Borough.  This and more can also be found on the Chatham Borough website

You might have noticed that over the past month or so the website has been undergoing changes to make the information more accessible to your mobile devices.  At the same time we have given the website a fresh look.  Please send us an email with any comments and/or suggestions.  Thanks

Here are some of the highlights happening this spring and important general information.  We've made it a simple bulleted list so it's easy to print and hang on the fridge!
Spring has sprung it's March:
  • Wednesday, March 8th----Mulch Area* open from  1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Saturday, March 11th----Mulch Area* open from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
* Mulch Area opens every Wednesday and Saturday at the same hours until fall.
Smell the roses it's April
  • Monday,  April 3rd
    • Curbside Brush Pickup----Bundle your twigs, branches and brush from the yard so that no branch is longer than 4 feet long or 4 inches in diameter, and place bundle at curb by 7:30 a.m. for pickup by the Borough.
  • Thursday, April 6th----Bulk & recycling pickup for Route A
  • Friday, April 7th----Bulk & recycling pickup for Route B
  • Good Friday, April 14th
    • Municipal Offices, Schools and Library closed
    • Route B Trash Pickup
  • Easter Sunday, April 16th----Library closed
  • Saturday, April 29th----8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
    • Fishing Derby at Kelley's Pond----open to Borough & Township residents 13 years old or younger
Planning a new lawn or garden?  Remember that mandatory water restrictions are in effect.  If your house number is odd, you may water on odd days, and even house numbers may water on even days.

  • Monday, May 1st through Wednesday, May 10th----Property Taxes Due
  • Thursday, May 4th----Bulk & recycling pickup for Route A
  • Friday, May 5th----Bulk & recycling pickup for Route B
  • Saturday, May 6th----Borough's Spring Clean* 2017 from 8 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 27th----Memorial Park Pool Opening Day
  • Monday, May 29th
    • Chatham Borough Memorial Day Commemoration----8 a.m.
    • Municipal Offices, Library and Schools closed
  • Tuesday, May 30th----Route A & B Trash Pickup
* Spring Clean
What started as a small grass-roots effort by a handful of Town & Country Garden Club volunteers, has developed into a beautification day where residents, businesses and organizations help clean, mulch, plant and improve Chatham's public green spaces.  This annual May, Spring Clean Up event fosters pride, volunteerism and deep-rooted community spirit. Volunteers of all ages partner with Chatham's Department of Public Works to promote environmental responsibility while beautifying and maintaining our town.

    • Borough Office Summer Hours Begin----Borough Hall closes at 1 p.m. Fridays until September 8th
    • Bulk & recycling pickup Route B 
  • Tuesday, June 6th----Primary Election
  • Saturday, June 10th----Fishawack Festival* 10 a.m. to after dusk
     
  • Saturday, June 17th----Farmers' Market Opens 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Monday, June 19th----Municipal Offices closed for inventory

A chance to visit with old friends and local shop owners during a downtown festival tradition that has developed into a regional celebration of Chatham's charm and community pride. Activities for all ages include, Chatham merchant sidewalk sales, outdoor dining and pub, hand crafted articles, fine artwork, live petting zoo and pony rides, kid's fun zone, entertainment, music, car show, magician, slot car races, movie under the stars and more....
Plan to spend the day, rain or shine.

  • Wednesdays----1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Plastic Bag Recycling Program:
Call for Help from Residents to Participate in
Plastic Bag Reduction Program

The Chatham Borough Environmental Commission has initiated a six-month drive to reduce plastic bags and other plastic film materials from our waste stream. The Environmental Commission requests your participation. See how you can assist:  Details

Chatham Library:
  • Something is always happening at the Chatham Library.  Keep informed on happenings at the Chatham Library by reading the Library's monthly newsletter. 
Hold the Date:
  • Tuesday, July 4th----Fire Department Inspection 9:15 a.m. at Firehouse; Parade starts at 10:30 a.m. (rain or shine).  Fireworks start at dusk at the Chatham Middle School (rain date----July 5th).
Chatham Recreation:

Chatham Borough Memorial Park Pool:
Registration will begin on April 1 st for the Memorial Park Pool.  An "Early Bird" fee will be in effect through May 15 th.  After May 15 th the regular season fees will go into effect. Fees and information are posted on the Chatham Borough website under Pool. The pool will open May 27 th.

Registration information is also available for the 2017 Tennis Memberships.

Spring/Summer Registrations:
Registration will begin in April for the Chatham Men's Softball League and in May for the Chatham Women's Softball League. Registration will take place at Chatham Recreation website by going to "Community Pass ", our online registration system.
Please watch the recreation website for summer camp information.

Fall Registrations:
Please also watch our website regarding fall registration information for Cross Country, Field Hockey, Volleyball, Soccer, Football, Flag Football, Cheerleading.
