Chatham Borough Seeks Resident Input on Uses for Stanley Building

The former Stanley Congregational Church building has been gifted to Chatham Borough to be used for community purposes. This survey is the first of a number of efforts to get thoughts and feedback from the community on possible uses for the building. If you are not familiar with the building, please enjoy this video tour: https://vimeo.com/536336444

Since the former Stanley Congregational Church was given to Chatham Borough there have been many questions about how it will be used.

Before that determination is made, Chatham Borough wants to hear from residents. The Borough is collecting comments on the Stanley Building through an on-line and paper survey. The survey is available at this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/StanleyChatham

In addition, hard copies of the survey can be obtained in the foyer at Borough Hall. “We want to collect as many ideas and as much feedback as possible,” said Chatham Borough Council member Jocelyn Mathiasen. “The survey is one way to do this.”

In addition to the survey, the Borough is speaking to a number of groups, including the Senior Citizens’ Advisory Committee in the Borough, the School District of the Chathams, and the Library, to collect feedback from them about unmet needs in the community.

“I’m excited to see how much interest there is in the building already,” said Council member Carolyn Dempsey, who with Mathiasen is co-chairing an advisory committee looking into uses of the building. “It points to a huge need in the community for a gathering place for events, among other things.”

The primary purpose of this survey is to collect information from residents about the uses they would like to see. Organizations inquiring about the building should reach out to Janice Piccolo, the Borough’s Director of Community Services. She can be reached at jpiccolo@chathamborough.org.

Potential users should be aware that Borough is still in information gathering mode. Final building policies, including fees, are still under discussion and the building is undergoing renovations. “Our target is to be up and running in late summer or early fall,” said Mathiasen. “However, a lot depends on the renovations and the programming for the building.”
