CHAVAGNES

15 years after its foundation, Chavagnes is now an established force in faithful Catholic education, preparing the next generation of generous and caring leaders for Europe.
All set for our fifteenth year ...
The next generation of Catholic leaders!

As we gear up to celebrate our fifteenth year at Chavagnes, we ask for your prayers for former Chavagnes pupil, Henri Crevat (pictured far left), who enters seminary in formation for the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Lyon this autumn. Henri, a keen sportsman, scout and chorister at Chavagnes, finished his A-levels and Baccalaureate here in 2015 and studied philosophy for a year at the Catholic University of Lyon before being accepted as a student for the priesthood by Cardinal Barbarin.

Also pictured here are Dominic O'Leary (OC, 2008-2010) who after a term of teaching sports and mathematics here at Chavagnes is off to Sandhurst in a few weeks to train as an army officer; Maximilian Micallef-Eynaud (OC, 2007-2014) who is studying aeronautical engineering at Bristol; Benjamin Bellec (OC, 2007-2011) who is a French navy officer cadet and has just been selected for a 6-month placement at the presigious US Naval Academy at Annapolis; Michael Tomlin (OC, 2004-2009) who has been teaching English in Chavagnes this summer and in the autumn goes into his final year of a Spanish a French degree at Salford.

We also send congratulations and prayers to Mr Sebastian Crawford who after graduating in history for Cambridge in 2009, taught at Chavagnes for five years as a member of our resident lay community, the Company of St Gregory. He proved a very popular and successful teachers and his subjects included History, Latin, Religion, English and Mathematics and he also worked very successfully to build up the Scouts de Chavagnes.  Mr Crawford has continued in membership of the Company for the last two years, but on secondment to a seminary in Uganda, where he has been teaching English to future priests. Now, after seven years of association, we say goodbye to him, as he joins the Institute of the Good Shepherd to study for the priesthood.
A Chavagnes wedding
Charles Tyldesley first walked with the Chavagnes chapter on the Chartres pilgrimage when he was a 14-year-old schoolboy in 2004. In 2011 he came to join the teaching staff and stayed until 2015, with a recent return stint this last summer term. While at Chavagnes Mr Tyldesley did a great deal for the artistic life of the College (art, music and drama) as well as building up the Scouts and successfully teaching English and Classics. He met Hermine Latournerie who was teaching French here, and the two have recently married, celebrating their wedding reception in the College. We wish them a very happy marriage, and assure them of our prayers.

The Chavagnes Studium

Bishop Athanasius Schneider (pictured), General Secretary of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Kazakhstan, was the key note speaker at the Studium conference this summer, on The Blessed Virgin Mary in Liturgy, Literature and Life.  The event attracted 30 delegates and as many as 45 for some events during the week-long programme of talks, visits and discussions. We plan to publish the proceedings of the conference before Christmas.

This September two students will begin their study of the Liberal Arts as part of the new study centre housed at the College. For more details, visit www.chavagnes.org/studium

WELCOME

We are pleased to announce the arrival of two new teachers at Chavagnes. First, Marta Senosiain, who has recently qualified as a teacher with a Masters in Education from the Pontifical University of Navarra and is known to us through the long association of her family with the College (three brothers have been here before her!). Miss Senosiain will be teaching Spanish throughout the College.

Second, Mr Georges Escalle has degrees from the IPC and the Sorbonne (Paris IV) and has taught French, Maths, Science and Music at the Collège Stanislas in Paris, Institut Frassati in the Vosges and The Académie Musicale de Liesse. He will be taking responsibility for French throughout the school. Mr Escalle has a special interest in helping pupils with learning difficulties.

Both teachers speak fluent English.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to our four boys who sat the French Diplôme Naitonal du Brevet (Year 10) this summer.  4 candidates; 3 'mention bien' and 1 tres bien'. Well done, Bobur, Thomas, Côme and Edouard!
