Cheers to a successful Sip, Save & Shine Event! A heartfelt thank you to all our alumni and friends who joined us for an unforgettable evening. Research: The Stigma Disabled People Face During Negotiations

A study by Terri R. Kurtzberg and Mason Ameri highlights the stigma disabled individuals face during negotiations, which can hinder their professional success. It reveals that societal biases often clash with the traditional image of a successful negotiator. Men with visible disabilities are perceived more positively than their non-disabled counterparts, while women, particularly those with mental health disabilities, experience a significant drop in perceived competence and trustworthiness. This creates a “double bind” for women, adversely affecting their negotiation outcomes. The study recommends ongoing anti-bias training, improved performance evaluations, and stronger disability inclusion practices to support disabled employees and enhance workplace diversity.

Your Employees Are Also Caregivers. Here’s How to Support Them.

Gretchen Gavett, senior editor at Harvard Business Review, featured CWIB research, led by Lisa Kaplowitz and Kate Mangino, on the importance of caregiver employers. Gavett highlights that 73% of U.S. workers have caregiving responsibilities, which can affect their productivity and job satisfaction. She emphasizes the need for employers to support these employees by recognizing their valuable skills, gathering data on caregiving impacts, understanding the broader scope of caregiving, adapting flexible policies, and advocating for better public policies like paid leave and affordable childcare. Implementing these strategies can create a more supportive environment for caregivers, benefiting both employees and organizations.
