Dear Friend,

On Wednesday, September 4th we held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of our newly renovated office. Community members, supporters, and key partners came together to mark this exciting milestone for our CASA program – the completion of a permanent, modernized, and more functional space to support our critical mission of advocating for children in the Lake County foster care system.

This renovation represents a new chapter for CASA Lake County. We are deeply grateful to all the individuals and organizations that made this transformation possible.

Our new space will help us better serve the children and families of Lake County and support our volunteers in their vital work. It serves as a lasting symbol of our commitment to ensuring that every child has a safe and permanent home. You can view before and after pictures in our slideshow here.

Congratulations to our Newest Volunteers

Congratulations to our six newest volunteers who completed their 30 hour pre-service training and were sworn-in by 19th Judicial Circuit Court Judge Reginald C. Matthews on September 12th.

We're so grateful to our new volunteers for taking on this incredibly important committment to advocate for children in foster care in Lake County.

Thank You to Community Purse

Community Purse hosts giving circles and provides a way for community members to amplify their donations and connect with local nonprofits. Community members hear from three local nonprofits at each quarterly meeting, and they vote for which organization to recieve their donations. CASA Lake County presented at their meeting in early August, and was selected as the quarterly grant recipient.

We are grateful to Community Purse for their recent $12,350 grant. Because it costs CASA $2,500 to recruit, train, and supervise a CASA volunteer for a year, this support will provide funding for 5 additional children with a CASA volunteer for a year. Thank you so much to the generous women of Community Purse!

Kudos for Some Amazing CASA Volunteers!

To CASA Joe for his dedication and excellent advocacy for his three CASA boys whose case just closed in guardianship. Joe did an amazing job and worked very hard to ensure that the boys were attending school and doing well. He stayed in close touch with the school, always looking for ways to help his CASA youth succeed. He also worked hard to find employment opportunities for one of the teens. He always offered assistance to a busy foster mom and kept the caseworkers informed about the children. He was a really great team member and the workers on the case were so appreciative of his communication and support.

To CASA Nickie for the successful closure of her third CASA case with the final child returning home and the court determining that they no longer need to be involved in the family’s life. Nickie has been a tremendous advocate on this case. She was a champion for the family being reunified and a caring and compassionate support for the mother on the case. Nickie fiercely advocated for all the children in the case throughout the last four years ensuring that the children had all of their physical, educational, and emotional needs met. The family was so lucky to have Nickie as their CASA.

To CASA Tim for continuing to follow his three CASA children wherever they go. All three of his CASA children have been moved from home to home and he remains their constant person regardless of where they are placed. With every move, he brings his knowledge of the case, and of the children, with him to help with the adjustment to their new homes. This has been a tough first CASA case, but Tim has been up for the challenge and is making a difference in these children’s lives.
