Weekly Choral Musical Offering
Rejoice in the Lord Always by Henry Purcell
written by Darlene James
The Bell Anthem was the original title of our musical offering this week; it only later became known as Rejoice in the Lord Always. Originally, it had a "symphony" of strings for the introduction that sounded like the pealing of bells, and then the voices entered with the text, "Rejoice in the Lord always" from Philippians 4:4-7. The composer, Henry Purcell, lived only 36
years (1659-1695), but his numerous church and theater compositions are still performed and appreciated. At 20, he was appointed organist of Westminster Abbey. I will never forget seeing his semi-opera, King Arthur, at the Early Music Festival in Boston years ago, and Dido and Aeneas at Julliard with Richard Pittsinger.
This anthem's text reminds us to have joy in the Lord: not to be anxious, but be hopeful, thankful, and have peace in knowing that your prayer requests will be taken care of.

Our choir this week: Phred Mileski, Gerri Smith; soprano, Nancy Lewandowski, alto Jim Myslik; tenor; Scott Konrad: bass.

We thank them all for taking time to record at home and bring us this beautiful anthem. Extra thanks to Scott for stitching this together and working a little magic.

All members of our congregation are welcome to join us in our weekly offerings. Please email [email protected] if you would like to participate.
VIGIL FOR BLACK LIVES MATTERS
Vigil for Black Lives Matter
With daylight getting shorter, the vigil at N. Main and Prospect St. will conclude on Monday, October 26 with a brief prayer. This vigil is a non-partisan, non-violent witness to call our community’s attention to the need for addressing racism and systemic brutality directed against people of color in our country. Attendees are asked to wear a mask, and welcome to bring a sign (home-made or otherwise), or simply stand in solidarity with us. This has been perhaps the longest running vigil in the State of Connecticut, following the brutal murder of George Floyd on May 25th.
