What are Conservation Districts?

What does your local conservation district provide? We have programs, resources, technical & financial assistance, and more located in all 105 Kansas counties!

Kansas Association of Conservation District's mission is to provide local leadership to protect and improve Kansas' natural resources through collaboration, education and implementation.

KACD wants to collaborate with all people, beyond farmers and ranchers, on improving and protecting our natural resources.
This is KACD's first quarterly email newsletter. If you do not want to receive future emails, please unsubscribe with link in the footer. Encourage others to sign up!

Local Work Group Highlights
Do you want your voice to be heard with NRCS?

Local Work Groups (LWG) contribute at the local level to make change happen! The work completed in 2022 led to the following contributions:

  • NRCS is working on providing financial assistance to install watering systems on cropland that utilizes grazing of cover crops.

  • NRCS is looking to expand GPGI and adjust planning efforts for Grazing Lands Health in EQIP to further address woody plant invasion in Kansas grasslands.

In 2022, many resource concerns were discussed. Top concerns across the state in 2022 were soil health (crop adoption/expansion), active gully erosion (specifically ephemeral erosion) in cropland fields, cedar tree invasion associated with grazing lands, lack of or ability to utilize prescribed burning, concern with the lack of available water for livestock, amount of sediment and nutrient delivery to surface water supplies that are utilized for domestic purposes. Be sure to read the full report.
78th Annual Convention Recap
In November, KACD hosted our 78th Annual Convention in Wichita! Watch the videos below for a recap of convention! The theme of convention this year was "Conserve Today to Preserve Tomorrow."
NASA's Involvement in Agriculture
At the 2022 Annual Convention for Kansas Association of Conservation Districts, NASA's Program Manager for Food Security and Agriculture Leadership, Bradley D. Doorn, PhD provided a presentation about NASA's involvement and focus on agriculture.

In August 2022, NASA Earth staffers and scientists took to the road of the "Space for Ag Roadshow and Listening Tour, https://appliedsciences.nasa.gov/our-impact/story/space-ag-listening-roadshow Brad would like for farmers or ranchers to become involved with NASA's connection of ground data and space data.

"We want to hear from farmers, from agriculture producers, what they need and then connect that to what data NASA can collect," stated Brad.

Brad would like for producers to reach out to him directly if they are interested in becoming involved.
