February 2020
Cabin Fever

Greetings!

DON'T LISTEN TO THE GROUNDHOG; HE LIES.

We watch intently while a rodent is pulled out of a box. Will there be six more weeks of winter?

Of course. Groundhog Day is the midpoint between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. Personally, I think this is why we start feeling a bit of Cabin Fever at this point. We have a couple more daylight hours, and we're itching to get out of the house. Getting outside is important, too. Here in the Northeast, sunlight is a rare commodity in the winter, so if it's sunny get out for a walk and improve your level of Vitamin D.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Work on the UCS/Headstart addition is moving along. Construction is not yet involving the interior, and disruptions to the facility and operations are little to none. Some anticipated closings will take place, but there will be plenty of notice given and the impact will be minimized as much as possible by working closely with the Town, Breadloaf Construction, and UCS. We are grateful for the great work environment that has been maintained.

REMINDER: PULSE meetings are every other month at the Bennington Senior Center, and keep the public informed on the progress of this construction project. The next meeting is on Wed, February 26th from 5:30-6:30 pm.

Catamount Connections is a local nonprofit organization which hosts programming that offers connection and support for families in the Bennington area. Recently re-located, Catamount Connections is now located at Mission City Church at 416 Main Street in Bennington.

The group offers open hours at the space for casual meet-ups and socialization for children and their caregivers. They also hold structured programming including support groups for postpartum, breastfeeding, returning to work, and more. The space offers community services such as child watch during the programs offered as well as a clothing swap.

Catamount Connections is not a childcare center, but rather a child-friendly space which provides support for the adults! Catamount Connections also works to bring opportunities to children and families in the community by partnering with other organizations and groups. Examples include sponsoring a playgroup at MAYCA studio, hosting CLiF book giveaways, and sponsoring family swim time at the Recreation Center.
