University of St. Francis Announces Retirement of Dr. Arvid C. Johnson
The University of St. Francis (USF) Board of Trustees announced in late April the retirement of University President Dr. Arvid C. Johnson. He is the ninth president of the University and will leave his ministry on May 31, 2025, after 12 years of service. The Board will soon begin a national search for the next President.

“It has been a pleasure to work with Dr. Johnson,” said Joe Mallof, chair of the University’s Board of Trustees. “His passionate commitment to students and love of USF, coupled with fiscal responsibility and many accomplishments makes Dr. Johnson an active and innovative leader. The entire Board thanks Arvid and his wife, Anne, for their many years of service and dedication. We are very grateful for a yearlong transition period so we can find a next president who shares Dr. Johnson’s commitment to USF’s high standards and embodies our values.”

Successful 67th Caritas Event Raises $235,000 for Student Scholarships at USF
The University of St. Francis (USF) is proud to announce the outstanding success of its recent Caritas Scholarship Celebration held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, in the Pat Sullivan Center on the university’s main campus in Joliet. This year’s event, themed “Launching Stars,” brought together members of the USF community in a shining display of generosity that resulted in an impressive fundraising total of $235,000 in support of USF students and student scholarships.

“As we celebrate this remarkable achievement, we renew our commitment to being a ‘welcoming community of learners’ for all of our students. Together, we will continue to shine brightly in our classrooms, in the workplace, and in the communities we serve. The University of St. Francis is deeply appreciative of this support, which will continue to help us launch our students…our stars,” said Arvid C. Johnson, Ph.D., USF President.

Rep. Lauren Underwood Visits USF Nursing Students
Rep. Lauren Underwood visited USF Leach College of Nursing students eariler this spring and participated in a question and answer session about the current state of nursing, the future of nursing, and her political work to advocate on behalf of nurses. USF thanks Rep. Underwood for her support of USF, its students, and the nursing profession!
USF Presented with Friendship Award by Spanish Community Center
During its annual fundraising dinner on Thursday, March 7, the Spanish Community Center (SCC) in Joliet presented the University of St. Francis (USF) with the 2024 Friendship Award in recognition of the University’s ongoing partnership with and support of the Center.

“The University of St. Francis is a proud, long-time partner of the Spanish Community Center. As Will County’s only federally-designated Hispanic-Serving Institution, USF is grateful for and encouraging of the SCC’s mission in support of the communities we serve. We thank the SCC for recognizing this through its Friendship Award,” said USF President Arvid C. Mark Your Calendar for USF’s 2024 Homecoming Festivities
The University of St. Francis (USF) invites students, alumni, employees and friends of the university to mark their calendars for USF Homecoming 2024 festivities, which will take place during the weekend of September 27-29, 2024.

While the full agenda of events for the weekend is currently being finalized and will be announced later this summer, one event is already set – the homecoming football game. Join USF at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 28, as the Fighting Saints take on the Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats at Busey Bank Field at Joliet Memorial Stadium (3000 Jefferson Street in Joliet). Watch stfrancis.edu/hcrw for additional events as they are finalized. 
Join USF for Ambassador Day on Tuesday, October 15
Ambassador Day at the University of St. Francis is a special opportunity for community leaders, elected officials and university partners to become more engaged in the university’s mission and further understand the importance of USF within our community. During the annual event, attendees hear the State of the University Address by USF President Arvid C. Johnson, Ph.D.
